College Student Summer Intensives

Hello All!

While summer stock is an option, my D is interested in gaining some additional training over the summer if possible.

Please forgive me if I have missed completely but I have searched the summer program threads (several which I used before before my D entered college)and I can't seem to find much info on good programs for students who are in COLLEGE now and are looking for summer intensives.

I have done some research and many of the NYU programs run their own summer programs (i.e. CAP21 has a professional in addition to the HS program, Strasberg, Adler etc). What I am seeking is programs folks might know of or have experience with that are not for pre-college but at a higher level. There must be more that I am unaware of.

With all the CC'ers here with children in college, I figured the boards are a great place for info. Any thoughts? Comments? Information?

Thanks as alays,
MikksMom

While I haven't looked into these as my kid won't be doing them as I can't pay for summer programs in college....some I know of are the CAP21 Professional Program, Circle in the Square Theater Program's Summer program, and Broadway Theater Project. Some colleges also run their own programs, like my D would LOVE to go to the summer program in Amsterdam through Tisch but I cannot afford that. Not sure if your child's school has anything like that.

I know people from my region who have done CITS. Also, in HS, my D trained with voice and acting faculty from CITS but here in Vermont. They are very good and I do recommend looking into that program as well as CAP's and BTP.

By the way, the CAP21 program I was mentioning is NOT the pre-college one but IS at a higher level (older).

I also think the New School for Drama (in NYC) has a summer three week MT Immersion program. College credit is available and you must be a high school graduate.

Also NYU-Steinhardt's summer musical theater program is for both rising seniors AND current college students. An undergraduate has the option of taking it for credit.

I think that the Broadway Theatre Project is well worth looking into. The majority of the "kids" are actually college age and the classes are great. Some people seem to think that the program is "dance heavy", but my D found the vocal and acting instruction to be similarly challenging (she has also attended US Performing Arts @ UCLA and NYU's Tisch pre-college CAP21 programs). www.broadwaytheatreproject.com

I have several students who had a great experience at BTP as well.
