OOPS!!! Sorry. Missed the innuendo ;'} I buried my mom last Weds. so my sense of humor has left the building. Good luck to all those waiting to hear good news. ;')
Hmmm, if everyone ranked their schools when they auditioned, and then every school ranked their candidates and you sent them into a huge computer program that matched everyone -- well there would be no wait lists Everyone including the school would have to see how it came out. Of course matching different types would be harder, but with coding of height, hair, personality... I'm not a math major but it sounds interesting.
ttmom - so sorry to hear about your mom. I actually don't think that the OP was trying to make fun of the process, but I do know that some of us just tried to make light during these tough times when the wait just really gets to you. My thoughts and prayers are with you though.
ttmom - I think the original post could have gone either way as to intent; but everyone else above you appeared to take it as a serious question, so maybe I'm just the odd man out My point was, if it was serious, then I wholeheartedly agreed with your points.
^ I seemed serious? I was mostly just playing with the idea. LOL Sorry if I've increased anyone's stress level. Sensitive psyches this time of year ... Best of luck to everyone.
Seriously, though ...

I don't see why any school would treat waitlisted students any different than their original acceptances.
I don't even know or care who came off the waitlist. All I know is who is dependable and works with the same intensity with which she would slap at a fire atop her head ... and who sometimes needs a good kick in the butt. Seriously, nobody cares. It's not like there's any shortage of talent although everyone starts at a different place and very much has their own journey to navigate.
This is by far the most interesting thread I've ever read. As a faculty member, and someone who runs auditions, I find what you say to be fascinating.
Just my two cents, though. Any program that discusses other programs on an individual level is one I would reconsider attending. If they believe in their program, let them talk about that.
I do ask students where else they are looking. If they are searching at a program I know well, I will point out the differences in the programs. If they are looking at programs with large MFA/Grad programs, I will tell them to ask that institution to speak to them about stage time potential. Beyond that, the decision is difficult enough without chiming in on something I know little about.
And to be perfectly honest, I've told students in the audition that they were the right fit for other programs. We look for specific types of students who will thrive in our program. So do the vast majority of other programs. We aren't all looking for the same student.
I don't envy any of you. This process is difficult - more so for you than for the schools. But believe me when I tell you, this is a walk in the park in comparison to the next level.
I wish each and every one of you the best of luck.
