Long and winding road that led from Minneapolis through Unifieds in NYC and Chicago, to wonderful offers, waitlists, soul-searching, and finally right back to home... a transfer from U of Minnesota BA to Minnesota/Guthrie BFA program: last year's dream, one year deferred.

Browneyes - your post brought a smile to my face. I can only imagine the happiness in your house right now. Congratulations!

I hope everyone on here has their dreams come true. Browneyes post shows that sometimes we take slight detours before that happens. Hang in there and enjoy the moment.

CosmoMom, your son had such a fantastic outcome to his admissions process with a number of acceptances to very well regarded MT programs. It is interesting to learn that he has chosen NCSA, a top acting program, given that it seems he was applying primarily to MT programs. It is a wonderful opportunity for him. Has he chosen, then, to focus on acting? I have many students with MT backgrounds who have opted to seek Acting BFA degrees too. In fact, I have a student this year going to NCSA with your son, who is a talented singer. It seems like the class will have others who are interested in MT and talented in it as well.

Browneyes, great story and really a wonderful beginning! Congrats!

CosmoMom, congrats to your son and his decision. NCSA is a great conservatory and in a gorgeous state. Lots of talented kids. And he won't be near as cold as my D in Syracuse. Hopefully we will still meet some day!

The final decision for Holly06's D is UArts!

What a journey filled with heartache (a cut that cut right thru the heart and soul), adventure (tour with Up with People), and a glorious ending in Philly!

THANKS to everyone on CC for your kind and encouraging words while we were on our trip!

Holly, I am delighted to read the news of your daughter. She has had quite the journey. She is an example of rising up from a setback and flourishing. Best to her at UArts! You both must be so happy!

Happy and beyond! Thanks so much for the kind words. You and the rest of the CC folks have been fantastic. Your incredible knowledge of the MT and acting theatre world has helped us so much along the way.

Holly- Congrats to your D,
Although I am not going into MT, a lot of people on here wanted to know my transfer outcomes.
Defyinggravity1- UNC Ashevile, Earlham College
I have not decided yet but I am leaning towards Earlham

Soozie, the NCSA decision was hard and not hard. S loves MT and would do nothing but musicals and be happy, but he just could not get past the need for great acting. He does not want to be a singer/dancer with mediocre acting ability. And he doesn't want to be a good actor with mediocre singing/dancing skills. He wanted it all, but there isn't time for all of everything in one college training program. He has had dance training for 9 years and this is the one area that was a concern. NCSA does teach dance (tap, jazz, ballroom, etc.) but not as intensely as say CCM. If he needs to we will try to supplement his college dance classes with a class or two at a local studio in Winston-Salem if we can find one. We think he won't backslide too far with his dance skills if he can do this. We're just not sure if he will have time. The NCSA faculty was really helpful. They knew musicals were his concern, so they put him in contact with a graduate from about 15 years ago who is currently rehearsing in NYC with Chita Rivera. This gentleman was wonderful to S. Told him that he continues to do musicals. S wants to be able versatile enough to do musicals, straight plays, film, TV - whatever will keep him working steadily throughout his life. My guess is he will keep auditioning for musicals in summer work - and NCSA does at least one musical per year. He cannot imagine ever not doing MT.

Many thanks to all of you wonderful CC'ers!! We did not know anything about the process and did not know enough to ask an intelligent question two years ago. Without all of your helpful suggestions, S would have been clueless. Throughout the audition season, thanks to you, he was well prepared, well rested, and knew what to expect. Every audition was a pleasant experience and as stress-free as it could be under the circumstances - thanks to all of you.

DefyingGravity....good for you! I'm very happy for you that things have worked out for you to transfer. It sounds like you are going in new directions with your intended major as well. I don't know UNC-Asheville too well (though I am sure it is a real fine place) but Earlham is a very nice liberal arts college. The two schools are quite different and so just try to figure out what you want in a college experience. I am glad ot hear you have a choice and wish you very well on this next step.

CosmoMom....all of what you mentioned about your son makes sense. I actually have had a few MT students who have chosen to seek acting degrees even though their backgrounds are heavily in MT. It is not like giving up MT but simply focusing on acting. They (and your son) can still do musicals. It is nice to hear that NCSA even puts on musicals. Your son had fine choices and it seems like he figured out what he wanted to concentrate on. It actually is a path that I have seen many choose who have MT backgrounds (including my student who will join your son's class at NCSA). Best wishes.

Sent D's deposit to NYU for Vocal Performance--MT (Steinhardt)!

It is so good to be done with the whole process. The last few weeks were agonizing as we waited for a financial aid snafu to work out.

But the outcome is happy, so no complaints. :0
