| I would like to offer my CONGRATULATIONS to all of these wonderful decisions- my hope is that everyone who is waiting for a spot finds that he/she does indeed have a hidden gem right there on their acceptance list in case the wl school does not come through.. move forward and by August you will be so excited to start the next chapter on your journey- go get some great training!!! It is available at a lot of programs- in the end it is what you put in to your training and growth that will take you further in this business than school XYZ on your resume!!! Now go enoy the rest of senior year!!! | |

| Impalanut, I think if a school chooses to accept you, they care and want you to attend their program. Scholarships (the merit kind) should not be an expectation. Nobody is owed a scholarship. I see it as a gift (if the merit kind) and it is usually not given to every accepted student. As far as need based aid, that goes by a formula, but even then, not every school offers 100% of need based aid. A merit scholarship might be used to entice particularly strong candidates, but that doesn't mean they don't also desire all the students they accepted to come. Every accepted student has "merit" which is why they were accepted in the first place. A scholarship may be used to particularly attract certain students (again, speaking of merit based ones). When our kids applied to college, even as fin. need applicants, we went in expecting nothing and if they got something, it was a really nice extra surprise. I would not enter admissions expecting merit aid. Not all accepted students get it. That doesn't lessen their acceptances. | |

| Impalanut - your S has some fine choices. I don't know if you have plans to visit this school before the deadline but if you do setup a meeting with the Financial aid office and explain that this is your top choice school but the other 4 are offering XXX, is there something they can do? The worse thing that can happen is they say no. You can always call or send an e-mail to the department head if you're not planning a visit. I doubled an award she received from the theatre department of one school (by asking) and now I'm working the Financial Aid office for Grants. Doesn't hurt to ask but it does hurt to pay! | |
