Urgent health question!

Hello all! I have my last senior concert tomorrow for choir at my school (in which I have several solos), and in the last 14 hours my voice has gone from being fine to being almost completely gone.

I know there have been several vocal health threads on this board, but I think this one is unique because I have nothing more than a scratchy sore throat and itchy ears.. No congestion, no nasal drip, nothing.

Does anyone know of anything I could do?? I'm slightly freaking out at this point, so any help would be much appreciated.. thank you so much!

While I am not in anyway a doctor it sounds like allergies. Go on vocal rest, drink lots of water, stay away from anything menthol. You might try over the counter Clairitin. Make sure it is the basic Clairitin and not with the added decongestant. You may also want to try a Neti Pot or a Neil Med system to flush any allergins out of your nasal passages. Good Luck.

Rest your voice, drink lots of water and use a personal steamer if you have one.

Good luck, hope your voice is better soon!

This would happen to DD and it was silent reflux disease. Not uncommon with singers under stress. You do not have to feel heartburn to have it. Losing your voice without other symptoms is one of the symptoms. Since you have a very short time fuse it would not hurt to treat as if heartburn with pepcid OTC. Also, eliminate from your diet fried foods, red meat, anything caffeine, chocolate, eggs, diary, mints. Any of those can trigger and you don't have time to figure out what could be an irritant for you. Raise the head of your bed. Do not eat anything within 3 hrs of going to sleep. Don't lounge on the sofa or bed right after dinner. You can do this in addition to the recommendations for allergy.

If it happens again or even if not, you can go see an ENT that specializes in voice majors or actors. DD went after it happened several times to her.

I know this is too late to help the OP, but tomato-based foods are also terrible for reflux, as are spicy foods - so add those to the "no" list.
