Hi Im (hopefully) a SF, and will be in the same boat as you next semester. Do you mind sending me your essay just so that I can see how you wrote it? PM it over if you dont mind.

I'm in the same boat as soupsong, would you mind sending it to me as well? I'm no expert, but I can definitely look it over and give you some feedback.

I'd take a look!

Just so you guys know, the essay isn't very important in getting finalist status. Just don't write anything rude or offensive and if everything else is fine (good grades, no disciplinary problems, SAT around or above 2000) you should be safe for NMF. But a good essay certainly can't hurt.

What is the essay prompt? Is it the same every year?

My question is: What is the essay topic the NMCS NMSF must answer each year in order to fulfill the requirements to advance to NMF?

Is the topic (prompt) the same year-after-year?

TXArchitect, your d (correct?) will receive the prompt in the SF package in early fall. It's been a couple of years, but I remember my kiddo did hers in an after school moment -- honestly don't know (not sure she shared it with me, to be honest!) the prompt, but I do know it was a pretty no-stress write. Enjoy summer...apps, etc. will be upon your kiddo soon enough.

Thank you, Mommafrog. Yes, DD's school is having a mandatory essay-writing workshop over the summer, and, since the 'Bama app doesn't require an essay, we thought she could use the NMF prompt instead. Guess she'll do an essay for the common app instead, since she HAS to do something...

Thanks again.

Ahhh....that makes sense as to why you/she are wondering now. I'll ask my d when she gets home from work, but that will be a 2 year old answer (if she even remembers ;-) and I don't know if it stays the same from year to year. I do know it was SHORT!! (that was the year they were transitioning to electronic, so kids had the opportunity to do paper or computer) and the paper space was maybe 4-5 inches...so not sure if it would be "meaty" enough for the workshop your d will be doing.
