YUJIE: I looked at Case's website and didn't see details of score-based scholarships listed.
If you go to their financial aid section, you can use their "net price calculator"--which includes merit and need-based aid. Enter your/your parents' info. to get an estimate, or email their financial aid office(financialaid@case.edu) with your question.

(Adding this list here as well as the other thread, since people are using both.)

3. Available to out-of-state students
4. College must be accredited, public or non-profit private, 4-year degree-granting institution
Key:

NMSF: National Merit Semi-Finalist
exp: stipend for experiential learning (internship, study abroad, etc., allowable uses vary by college)
Full Tuition: covers the cost of tuition for 4 years
Full Ride: covers Tuition, Room, and Board for 4 years (may include other benefits as well)

Posting this in both NMF scholarship threads.....Change from past years!
Oklahoma City University is now offering full tuition for NMF not a full ride. This change begins with the HS Class of 2013. You can see the two different requirements for last year and this year's application process here: Oklahoma City University : Financial Aid
NMFs now get the Trustee scholarship along with those who have scores > 33 on ACT or 1470 on SAT AND >3.6 GPA.

| Texas Tech Update
Texas Tech has unfortunately discontinued the NMF scholarship. It used to be an automatic $100K over 5 years (essentially a full ride), and now it is zero.

So, to get these rewards, do you have to list those colleges are your top choice?

For most schools, you don't need to name them as First Choice until spring of senior year...when you're making your final decision.

| national merit scholarships - good schools for engineering?
Our son is a National Merit Semifinalist with 2300 SAT, GPA 4.68, 8/372 rank, good SAT subject and AP scores, tennis/music talents, etc. He plans to study electrical or engineering in college. Does anyone know if any of the colleges offering significant awards to National Merit Finalists have good to very good (perhaps even excellent!) schools of engineering. For example, can anyone comment on the schools of engineering at USC, Baylor and Northeastern? How about University of Arizona? Any comments would be appreciated! Thanks ...

^^^
How much merit do you want? Free tuition? Less? More?
The higher ranked the program, the less the award likely will be.

USC and Northeastern are very well respected in engineering. Some of the other schools that give large merit for NMF and excel in engineering are Texas A&M, Drexel, Florida, Arizona, Arizona State, Michigan State, Boston University, and Auburn.
The next tier after those would be Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, WPI, Washington State, Houston, New Mexico, Central Florida, and NJIT.
Some of these schools give guaranteed awards, others are competitive.
See this thread for details on the awards: NMF Scholarships: An Updated Compilation
Although they don't give large awards specifically for NMF, with those stats you'd have a good shot at big merit awards at some other good engineering schools like Clemson, NC State, and Case Western Reserve.

You could look at U. Tulsa or U. Texas at Dallas. Your S would probably get a full ride, or at least full tuition at Tulsa, and a near full ride at UTD.

If he is applying for Fall 2013 admission he needs to get moving quick. Texas A&M engineering filling up fast. Excellent engineering school, good opportunities for NMF. He appears to be a guaranteed academic admit, but additional scholarship needed to be completed by 12/1. Call the admissions office and ask to talk to a NMF specialist. Which USC are you considering--Carolina or California.

Has anyone heard of Chicago giving merit aid to NMFinalists? Son received a letter from them saying they have some merit available and I was surprised a school of that caliber would offer merit money.

U of Chicago gives merit aid to about 15% of freshmen, average award about $10K/year. Their NMF award is only $1-2K/year, however.
