Counselor in charge of prospective NMF at UMN says students can get the Gold Scholar OR Cyrus Northrop, but not both. Refused to say how many of these awards are given.

U of Minnesota gave 125 Gold Scholar awards for 2012 freshman, the UMN counselor tells me. They anticipate the number to be stable for the future, and though this is fewer than the # of NMF they get these days, she assures me there are many other scholarships kids can apply for also.

Few LACs on the list, so I'd thought I'd mention Juniata in PA has a competitive scholarship offering full tuition for up to 4 students. An on-campus interview is required.
It sounds very competitive, but when you view the size of the school and the number of NMF enrolled per the NM website, I think it is less competitive than first blush.

Does anyone think that the most significant schools should be in bold the next time the list is updated?
If that is a good idea, would anyone like to choose the top ten most notable scholarships in terms of popularity, prestige, and value?
Thanks

I think for this thread just sticking with the facts is better than trying to interject opinion by highlighting or ranking. However, it would be fun to have a separate opinion-oriented thread for discussing which are the best.

The award for WVU is $18K OOS and $6K in state + the one time $3500 award. This is approximately full tuition in either case.

Thanks BobWallace.
I did't mean to pull a US News on you by ranking NM scholarships! You're right that the compilation should be factual. I thought that highlighting the most popular and generous schools would point prospective semifinalists to where they should begin their search.
Any thoughts on how the list can be improved?
