I did terrible in my freshman year of high school (2.75 GPA), but I was taking two honors classes and had over 50 community service hours. Even if I did amazing in my next three years of high school, would my freshman year still sever my chances? Thank you.

Why are you speaking in the past tense, is your freshman year already over? You stated in another post that you were currently a freshman.
It will take a considerable amount of work to pull yourself out of the hole you dug yourself. You will need a 4.4-4.8 every semester until graduation in order to show your dedication. If academics isnt your forte then pile on the leadership and varsity sports, but go for competitive, physical sports like lacrosse, football, wrestling, hockey, basketball, swimming, and cross country.

I disagree with ConnorQuinn. I do not believe that you have dug yourself in a hole that will take a considerable amount of work to dig out of. Did you mess up? Yes. This, however, will not be the straw on the camel's back. What you need to do is finish up your freshman year strong. Then, buckle down your sophomore and junior year and really strive for those As. Start preparing early for the SAT/ACT (They make up about half of the academic part of your whole candidate score). For the rest, enjoy high school and participate in activities that make you happy. You should pick a sport, but it does not need to be what ConnorQuinn mentioned. Pick a sport that you will enjoy doing because if you hate the sport, it will show in your performance. Join clubs that you will enjoy and strive for leadership opportunities. If your school has any national honor societies then I'd recommend joining them if you are qualified. Remember your goal is to become a successful officer. USNA is not the only route. Good luck in your pursuit.
