Having a backup plan prior to I-day is prudent in case of an injury or illness. My daughter's backup plan is Navy ROTC. However, once a candidate takes the office on I-day, the NROTC scholarship becomes null and void. At that point there is no backup plan other than community college as suggested by USNA69.
Unlike West Point and USAFA, Navy rarely has medical turnbacks because of injuries sustained during plebe summer. If your candidate is inducted into the Navy, the academy has a vested interest in seeing that they graduate in 4 years.

When the Admissions board meets do they review every application that was completed the week prior? What happens after applications #100-150 are reviewed, for example?

In the last few days that I've spent glued to a bunch of flight sims it seems like this argument has taken a bit of a life of its own. I realize and apprecite the views that everyone has on the issue. In my case, the key for getting through plebe summer (and a rough first semester) was not ever considering quitting. Thats not to say that during first semester when I was on six meals in advance and was running myself ragged doing 60+ miles a week for xc I didn't think about it, but I never saw it as a violable option. I felt that as long as I never allowed it to be an option, it wouldn't happen. Part of that was not having a back-up school in place. My dad commented to me a few times before I-Day that if "something" happened I could still get into a decent school in the middle of July (he mentioned Drexel specifically). Whether or not that could have happened, i'm happy I never had to find out.... With that, I have to give a brief 0633 for my flight tomorrow. so im out

| Loa
My son just received his LOA today. He is jumping around like I have never seen him before. He took a copy of his LOA to his HS football game tonight to show it to everyone. He received his medical waiver 2 days ago. That was a big relief.

Appointments take approximately two weeks to process after you receive a nomination and everything else in complete.

'Twas one year ago this week my offsprung received notice of his nom to USNA, and his letter of appointment arrived one week later. As others have noted, one of the greatest of days in life for the candidate and all who love him/her.
So happy for those who are starting to hear ... and those who will. Try and receive the waiting, however long or short, as a blessing and gift. |
