Everyone gets treated the same - "poorly" during the first year...
It's probably more fun for us as legacy parents than it is for the kids; gives you yet another bond with your son/daughter. Being id'ed as a legacy isn't always great for the legacy mids, especially if mom or dad is a senior officer. Rightly or wrongly I always felt that more was expected from those kids, because they have at least some knowledge of the Navy or Marine Corps. No "special" attention is welcome during Plebe Summer or Plebe Year.
I wasn't a legacy or Navy Junior. I found a couple of Napsters and soaked up as much as I could from those "salty dogs" - especially when it came to rack-making, shoe shining, and room cleaning. Those guys were veritable fonts of knowledge, but there was also a lot of pressure on them to act as good examples for us to follow.
Had my dad been a Captain/Colonel or Admiral/General, I think Plebe year might have been even less pleasant than it was. "Oh, so your daddy is a Captain, is he? I guess you think you're hot stuff, huh, Mister..."
