I got mine on march 5th ( i applied feb 1st ) . Anyone know when the registration packets are coming? My mom is flipping out cause she already booked a flight. I emailed John Meise, the Lieutenant in charge and he replied with a very formal version of "I'm not going to be back at my office for a bit, I'm on spring break). Kinda scared it got lost in the mail? Has anyone else gotten packets or know when we're supposed to get em?

We also booked a flight that same night for my son, since they were still offering $59 one way to BWI from here. I also think it's strange that it's been over a week, but maybe it is because of spring break that they haven't gotten around to sending them? We got his acceptance email the same day you did and no packet yet!

marcieme, you're going to discover that USNA admissions handles an amazing amount of data bites. But not all of them. The administrivia sometimes gets off track. The rule of being reasonably patient then calling seems to work best.

Just to let you all know, I went to NASS when i was in high school and had a good time. Now I am one of the cadre for this summer. Let me know if you have any questions about it.

And in regards to swimming and/or physical fitness, come in shape and able to swim. Though it may not be a prerequisite, it will make your experience more enjoyable and it will help you out. We cadre do grade each one of you who come through here, and being in great shape/ able to swim well does leave a good impression with us and will definitely benefit you.

USNA is notoriously unhurried and deliberate (aka slow) in the paperwork end of things. Also remember, besides sending out "yes you got into NASS" packets, they are sending out "Yes, you got into USNA" packets to the Class of 2013, *plus* all the follow-up paperwork generated in that process (small forests of trees being used here...).
Be patient; the packets will show up when the time is appropriate. May not be your timing, but trust that USNA knows what they're doing. Also understand that too many (or ill-timed) calls to them can be aggravating to them, rather than helpful to you. Use those phone calls to the Admin people very thoughtfully and sparingly. Know that you are now in the application/interview process with USNA, and everything is noted (especially any contact made by mom or dad, even if on your behalf).

Don't worry about the packets. They will probably be mailed at the end of March, first of April. When my son (class of 2011) went to NASS a few years back he received his packet after the deadline date for returning the paperwork and fee (he was accepted in Feb.). I remember him calling the academy and they said to ignore the deadline date and return asap. I believe last year my daughter (class of 2013) received her packet the first part of April. Each year tends to be different.

If any of you are not accepted to NASS don't think you can't get into the academy. My older daughter never even applied to NASS, filled out the application to the academy and received her LOA in September of that year. How time flies....she will be commissioned in May!

Summer Seminar

Still waiting in Austin, Tx. The admissions department was quick in their response back to my request about my application. More patience required on my part. Tonight is "opening night" for Texas baseball, a WIN might take my mind off the process for the night. A NO HITTER might get me through the entire week. Go Timberwolves, beat Georgetown. Again, CONGRATS to all who have received their acceptances. GO NAVY !!!!!!!!!

couyang: NASS is a much "kinder and gentler" time than Plebe Summer, but they do want to give applicants a small idea of what it would be like to become a Mid. There are generally two academic seminars a day, based on the choices you made on your applications.

If they do things at all like two years ago, there will also be a range of physical activities. My soon-to-be-Youngster (!) said that one of the things she really liked about NASS was that they were always doing something. They played sports for hours on the first day while waiting for everyone to arrive. They did some PT, and they did part of the Endurance course ("E" course).

They also did an official CFA (Candidate Fitness Assessment). If you come to NASS in good shape, your CFA score can count for your application. Don't worry about "How good is good enough?" Just work out every day so you can do your best and have fun.
