So i just got a digital camera and a digital photo frame for graduation. are plebes aloud to use these things? and will i be able to store pictures on my usna computer, or is that considered "media"? i can't imagine them not letting you take pictures your whole plebe year... i certainly want to remember it! any answer would be appreciated so i can tell my mom to bring them or leave them at home for PPW.
I wouldn't take an expensive digital camera during PS. You won't have time to take pics. Once Ac year starts, the camera will be fine. I'm fairly sure the frame will be OK, even during PS, but by PPW you will know what's OK in your company. You can have your parents bring both items to you then.
You will be permitted to have a camera after plebe summer-
take 2012mom's advice and have your parents bring it/send it during PPW.
Following reform, and depending on your company, you will be able to use it after that!
And, hopefully, you will remember to send some pics home to mom and dad, unlike a certain Mid I know!
The less you have to carry with you during I-day (you'll get enough crap that you'll have to lug around so the less stuff you have on you the better) and during the shift into your companies for the academic year the better and easier. You certainly don't want to break anything expensive or irreplaceable. My suggest would be to wait until you are moved into your company area and have your parents sent it to you then. trust me you'll want to take pictures...just remember to keep your valuables locked up!

One more thing to add...since you wont be photographing those fun filled moments this summer and your parents wont either someone will! Plebe Summer 2009 your parents can get photos and dvds of your company/platoon from the link above so they may catch a glimpse of you during plebe summer. Hope this helps and maybe they can get some video/photos of you
