| 2013 company list is out...somehow
So i was looking at the facebook "Usna class of 2013" group, (im not a member b/c of the advice from others on here) and on one of the discussion topics there is a list of the ENTIRE incoming class along with their future emails and company numbers. i was pretty surprised to see my name on there but im guessing it's legit. 10th company!!! i guess its a relief knowing, but kind of a strange way to find out. for those of u who do facebook, check it out. the list is rather long so it might take some time to locate ur name, but it should be on there. let me know what u guys think... legit or not legit?

actually don't be dumb like me and search through half the names looking for your own. use your browser's "find" feature. its saves a TON of time lol.

They found out because people are very idiotic, posting it in a PUBLIC group for all to see. And because people do not know how to keep their mouth's shut.

| All the names?????
I hope someone had the names removed and they are likely trying to track down WHO posted all the names! Anyone every heard of the "Privacy Act?" The Academy is not allowed to release these names without permission from each individual.

Oh don't worry. I'm sure they already found out WHO because the guy is a NAPster and his facebook has a picture and includes his real full name.

Not only a NAPster, but a prior. It is common knowledge at this point. He will be lucky if he makes it through the doors of Alumni Hall. Should be an interesting summer for him, regardless. And, whoever handed the list over to him... I don't even want to begin to imagine what will happen to them; not pretty. My guess...companies will be reassigned. The internet is an interesting place...

I think everyone is making more of a big deal about the company information than needs to be. I highly doubt that USNA will re-assign everyone to a new company. It used to be that a letter was mailed 1-2 weeks before I-Day that gave out the companies. Knowing other people in your company isn't really going to gain you any advantage.
The bigger concern, as mentioned, is putting information from the intranet out onto a public domain. The intranet is FOUO and technically, it could be considered CONFIDENTIAL. Information and Operational Security (INFOSEC/OPSEC) are a big deal in the real Navy.
Sounds like a good training topic during Plebe Summer.

jadler03 has it exactly correct! OPSEC is a critical item across the U.S. military. A great training topic!

Don't worry about any of us getting into any trouble during the summer. We were innocent bystanders and actually should be pretty ****ed that our private info was posted without our consent. And that was actually the ENTIRE list of the class of 2013 coming into plebe summer so there is no possible way that each and every plebe will get into any trouble concerning this. They might make the summer a tad bit harder because one of our classmates stepped out of line but that's about it..

IMO, the only member of 2013 who could possibly have trouble over this is the person who put the list on the Facebook page. Particularly if he is a prior, he should have known better. OTOH, the person who passed him the entire list could be in a lot of trouble.
If the prior hacked in to get the list? Then he could possibly end up in jail for hacking into a government computer system.
