Hello, I am a freshman high school student at a private, male Catholic school. The school is probably one of the most academically challenging in the state. I am currently taking all honors courses with a near 4.0 GPA with a good likelihood of taking all honors/ap's in the coming years. Also, knowing that Naval Academy heavily stresses involvement in the math and science fields, I am on track to taking AP Calculus and possibly AP Stats senior year. I am currently awaiting PSAT scores, and was wondering if anyone that did get accepted into the academy took the PSAT's and what their scores were, to get a sense of the caliber? I recently finished rowing novice crew, plan on playing ice hockey and crew once again in the spring, and am currently involved with the mock trial team. I have already served nearly a hundred community service hours and plan on continuing to make that number grow. My main question to you guys was do I appear to be on the right track, and also, what else can I do to promote my leadership opportunities, as I feel confident about athletics and academics? Too early to meet with BGO. But here's something you can do. Read, read, read. This forum and the "other forum: http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1" Use the search engines on each forum when you run into a question to pull up posts about a particular topic.

There is a book on getting in to each of the academies, well, maybe only USMA, USNA, and USAFA............it has been redone. Old author was Smallwood. Son found that very helpful. Someone on here will have the current info on the book.

Research military careers. You are in the military longer than you are at the academy. Choose your academy based upon what you want to do with the following 5-25 years of your life.

Visit the academies, if possible.

The AP Calc will be great senior year. Chem very important also. More important than Statistics.

USNA4ME: My advice about choosing which academy may not be applicable to you if you already are set on USNA.

Reading your post again.......your question about leadership. First, leadership is not always the elected stuff. Sometimes that is only a popularity contest. Get involved at the grass roots level doing something you are passionate about. That will lead to leadership!

Also, at your age, you can position yourself in some organization you are involved in. Run for office. Don't be shy. And run again if you don't get elected the first time. Be involved in committees, and be active in doing the work of the organization. Maybe start out running for the office nobody wants: Reporter or Secretary or whatever. And do a good job of what ever office or committee chair you land. Be an engaged leader, listening to those around you.

Watching high school kids, I see many with leadership potential, but they are afraid to run for office. Afraid of not getting elected. Well, you never got anything that you didn't try for!
