But I could still get placed into it, I just can't pick it, right?

Yes, of course haha, but to be honest, it's not very likely...there are many floors in Brittany and you'd be lucky to get the 7th floor randomly. Ever considered calling the housing office? I was able to request my Palladium single because I called them :-). You should give it a shot!

I am just going off of the NYU housing Wiki. Apparently Brittany is very close to the Film classes, and the rooms on floor seven are quite spacious and are only doubles.

Any other recommendations for dorms that are close to the film classrooms?

All of the Washington Square dorms are close to the Tisch building on 721 Broadway, where your film classes would be. The absolute closest would probably be Weinstein, Goddard, and Brittany. But honestly, Hayden and Rubin are also really close, Hayden being across the square from Goddard and Weinstein and Rubin also a short walk away.

I am not sure if you would know this..... Would the final cut lab in Third North really outweigh the fact that it is further away from Wash Square? Also, is Third North that nice of a dorm? I have heard it is just a dirtier UHall...

Ehh, I honestly wouldn't know about film stuff like that, but there's free printing at Third North :-). You'd have to ask a film major.

Third North is a nice dorm, but I kind of get what people mean as in it's a dirtier U-Hall haha. But, Third North's dorms are nice, you'd definitely survive. It's really social, as the largest freshman dorm in the country, and there's stuff going on there all the time. You couldn't go wrong with either dorm, although if you value sterility and nice-looking over social atmosphere, U-Hall might be a better pick. Well, actually, I take that back a little bit...U-Hall does have a social atmosphere, but it depends on what types of people you hang out with there. But then again, every freshman class is different, so those judgments are hard to make...gahh, I'm confusing myself, but you get the point. Good luck!

And in unrelated news...
I'm two revisions of Writing the Essay papers to being a college sophomore. Feels soooooo weird. But I'm definitely way excited for next year's schedule, it's the perfect schedule for me.

So, do I understand this correctly? Hayden has "triple suites" with three bedrooms with one person per room. Do you have any information of these types of rooms, or would it be better to just bite the bullet and get a normal double (I have never shared a room before so I see that as a last resort)?

NOCCA, i've heard a lot of NYU kids complain about Writing the Essay. What is it about it that's so bad? And would you recommend that we don't do WTE with Conwest in the same semester?

To rszanto:
I live in Hayden, and I can honestly tell you that there are no "triple suites" like the ones you're talking about. I know that there are a couple of random singles on the second and maybe third floors, but they're always in the same suite with either a double or a triple room. If you're in a Hayden suite, count on having either one or two roommates; the suites normally have five people, two people in one room, three in the other. Honestly, if you have the opportunity to choose (which I don't think you do, unless you request something), defs try to get a double; they're pretty spacious, and you're only sharing a bathroom with one person. The room view for doubles isn't good in most instances, but something has to be wrong, right? A double within a suite is also not bad; they can be the size of normal doubles, depending on the floor.

To ilovehouse:
I didn't have to take Con West--I know that Tisch Drama students don't have to take it and I don't think any of the BFA Tisch programs have to do it (Cinema Studies is a BA program, I think the only one in Tisch). So, I wouldn't know how to tell you about whether it's good to take Con West and Writing the Essay in the same semester, although I haven't heard any concerns about that. As far as Writing the Essay itself...I have my personal qualms about it, and personally I would have been fine with either taking one semester or taking an English Lit class or something (or getting that second semester replaced with my AP English Lit credit, ANYTHING). But no. Two semesters of Writing the Essay. My issues with it are that it's just a class of confusion; all these terms are thrown at you (I'll probably be making fun of "reckon" for a few more months), and you have no idea what the hell the teachers are talking about half the time. The only thing that I've really gotten out of class is A)learning how to BS with finesse and B)taking totally unrelated things and finding connections (actually something really good to take out of a class). But generally I could have definitely done without it, and the majority of freshmen that I've talked to feel that way...I've only talked to literally three people all year that actually enjoy the class. Not to discourage you before you've tried it (sorry about that, I probably already have). But yeah. One more essay due tomorrow (I'm actually working on it right now) and it's OVERRR. So happy.

P.S. Not sure what school you're in, but if you're in CAS, you're in luck...only one semester of WTE. If you're in Tisch, Stern, or Steinhardt, sorry...two semesters for you.

I have a couple of questions that you might be able to answer:

Do you have any idea how many transfer applicants the drama department at Tisch takes for directing?

I think my application is strong, but my test scores are low (24 ACT, please don't laugh) and around a 3.4 GPA (College and H.S.) but I did do the IB program in H.S. Anyways, do you think with strong essays, rec.s, e.c.s, and a good interview I could still be a strong canidate?

Final question I swear, I was told my admissions decision from Tisch was mailed May 2nd (I still haven't recieved here in Missouri). Do you think it is a good sign that it was mailed so early???

Thanks for your help/advice!

There's no directing major in Tisch Drama. One of the studios, Playwrights Horizons, is where you would go if you were interested in directing, but it combines that with other disciplines, including acting, dance, song, stagecraft, costume design, etc.

I heard that Tisch Drama took a total of 25 transfer applicants this year, including both internal and external transfers. But don't quote me on that.

Your scores should be ok for Tisch...I don't think you'd get rejected academically (though it's always a possibility, it really just depends on who you're competing against).

I love it how you're asking questions even though there's nothing you can do about it, haha. Don't stress! It's over...what happens will happen, and it's out of your hands. That's what I figured while waiting for letters of admission/rejection. Tisch Drama is sending out their waitlist/transfer acceptances on a rolling basis.

Good luck!

Can you chance me?

Hi! Thanks for all the great info. I'm going to be a senior next year and Tisch Drama is one of my top choices. I'll be coming to NY this summer to check everything out.
I'm from California. Female.
Here are my stats:

SAT: 1730/2400 (Let's just say Math is not my strong point...taking again in October.)
Still waiting on my History and Literature SAT Subject exams.
AP World: 4
Taking AP US, AP Psych and AP English as we speak. Don't have scores yet.
GPA: 4.03 Weighted, 3.90 unweighted.

I have been acting since 6th grade, training with one of the Actor's Equity Theatres in my town and in my H.S. Conservatory (we have to audition to get in and then work with teaching artists every day, every afternoon till 6. It limits the ability to do any other extracurriculars. I've been doing it 2 years so far.)

I consistently get lead roles and have done one outside role for pay in the "real world." Examples: Rizzo in Grease. Pennywise in Urinetown. Olivia in Twelfth Night. Phebe in As You Like It. etc.

I won one National Youth Theatre Award so far.....I hope for more.... good reviews this year.

I will be interning for a working theatre this fall.

I was in a very well respected, by audition only, Conservatory for one summer.

I can sing and take voice lessons.

I know the audition is where it is at. I'm used to that. But are my grades, etc competitive enough, assuming I can't make the math budge up on the SAT?

Hey, I was just accepted to Tisch for photography and imaging. NYU has been my dream school since I was little and am so thrilled to have been accepted. My parents are just making me wait to see my financial aid package. I was offered a huge scholarship to BU art school and I was wondering what you have to say about being an undergrad at Tisch. Although it is my dream, is it worth all of the money? I had taken summer classes there a while back, and really felt changed and the resources were just outstanding!! However, what's it like from an actual student's perspective? I guess the main question is--are you happy and would you have done anything different? Before I make a decision, I just need to know that what I am doing is right because I know that in life we have to sacrifice dreams--I know that sounds so cheesy...I just need advice and to pray that I get a nice financial aid package!

Getting NYU ID card

NOCCA Jr, once a student has been accepted, has accepted her acceptance (in other words, told the school she is coming and paid the various deposits of $$$), can the student go ahead and get her NYU ID card if she comes to the city before move in in late August?

My D plans to be in New York in mid June to visit a friend and will be going over to campus (such as it is) to take an official guided tour, which she did not get to do when she came to Saturday in the Square. She was hoping to go get whatever ID card she needs then, so she will have one less thing to do when she gets to campus in late August. Is that possible?

Also (yes, another question!): how much money would you say a reasonable Tisch student spends in a month on incidental stuff? I don't mind saying that we are not a rich family, by any means, and it is going to cost us until it hurts to send our D to NYU, so we don't have a lot of $$ leftover for her to use to buy coffee, etc. I know that there are lots of very well-to-do kids at NYU whose parents probably can afford to give them several hundred dollars a week to spend, but that's not us. Any idea what a reasonable amount is for a busy musical theater student used to modest means?
