| before i appealed, they were offering about 24,000 in PLUS loans and about 6,000 in student loans. i was really surprised when i got the new financial aid award. sucks i can't go though. my parents and i would have to really cut down on things for me to go to NYU and i wouldn't feel right about putting my parents through that. maybe i should write again? idk |

| Anyone can appeal. You can either send a letter or do it by phone. Just call the FA office and speak w/a counselor. You can ask them to take your appeal info over the phone. It takes a few minutes. Unless of course you have a lot of info to give them. |

| NYU gave me $3,500 more so now I have approximately an $18,000 scholarship with like $3,000 or so in grant money. They gave me more scholarship and didn't touch my grant which I thought was kind of weird. Whatever, I'm going to BC anyway (similar price, honors program). But, yeah, NYU seemed pretty open to giving us a bit more money (for any of you who would like to try and appeal their financial aid decision). |

| You basically have to tell them what your situation is that warrants you getting more scholarship or grant money. Whether it's a hardship or just a plea for more money let them know. They will probably adjust it somewhat. The average I've heard is about 1,500 to maybe 3,000. They will even tell you on the phone it probably won't be 20,000 if that's what you're looking for. They are very nice and will answer your questions. |

| What do you mean by "just a plea for more money"? I did not get much financial aid, and my financial situation hasn't changed. How should I go about appealing it if I already sent in my tuition/housing deposit? |

| We got something We appealed the financial aid award and got an extra 2340 in grant money. It's not what we requested but every bit counts. |

| How do you appeal? At Saturday in the Square, I talked to one of the financial aid officers, and he basically told me that the only way you can get more money is if your financial situation changes. They gave me 2K in grant, 4K in Work Study, the rest in loans (ugh, of which my family will be taking out 50K in my name). He was saying that NYU provides enough financial aid according to everyone's EFC, but that cannot possibly be true. What should I do? Also, does anyone know if my grandfather being an alum can get me any scholarship? |

| I heard that NYU's financial aid ranges from 1 to 30 thousand dollars.
My family's **** poor; I have to get about 20k in loans.
My friend was about the same and she appealed in person when she visited NYU during spring break. she only got a couple thousand more; is this because there is some unsaid maximum financial aid of 30,000? nobody gets more? |

| I don't believe there's necessarily a maximum. I think they only have so much to give and it has to be divided up among many many students. |

| and I will confirm for you that there are students that do get 30K from NYU.
My son is finishing his freshman year and he received 30K in scholarship $$. I cried for joy when we got that FA letter. |
