Taking courses across schools

I've heard notorious things about the strict bureacracy of NYU. Is it true that it is very difficult to take courses across the different schools of NYU? Like from Stern to Tisch.... or something like that.

I think any school to Tisch is hard (Tisch students get priority at Tisch, and classes fill fast?), but to any other school seems to be not a problem. There is a lot of bureaucracy at NYU, but I think not so much when it comes to registering for most classes.

With Tisch they have an Open Arts Curriculum and students from any school can take classes from that, but only majors can take all the other classes. Same goes for Tisch students taking classes in other Tisch departments. Unless you speak to individual professors, and even then its HIGHLY unlikely unless you are a rare super genius in the subject or something. The Open Arts curriculum has some great classes but is not the same depth/intensity/level as the Tisch classes. I don't know about Stern. I know as a Tisch student you can take some Stern classes and they count as electives.

i know there are several non-stern students who take the stern intro courses, but i am pretty sure they arent allowed to take the major/upper-level classes.
