As a class of 2013 Stern student (and with a few other friends who got accepted to Stern), here's my take:
@letsgo2college - the C in your jr year might be really looked down upon, and don't colleges usually focus on jr year grades? SATs are great on the other hand, and ec's look good, so it's hard to say.
@derrickli978 - your grades and scores are average for Stern, maybe bring up your SAT math score? but looks like you have great business ec's, so depending on how you present those ec's in your application, you have a good chance for ED Stern. Just a note, you can't apply for RD Cas if you are rejected ED.
@iamawesome - GPA is low, but SATs are good. Low/fair chance for RD Stern, and very good chance for RD Cas
@confusedjunior23 - Stern doesn't have International Business for a major, only as a co-major.

SAT: 1350/2020
Math-710
Reading-640
Writing-670
SAT II:
Chem-730
Math II- 760
US- 740
Very strong Essay on someone who has been an inspiration to me (not a family member, an international figure).
GREAT Rec's: One from a teacher who said I was her favorite student and the best this year. And another from a teacher who is famous for writing very good recs.
EC: Founded a chapter for Oxfam at my school. It’s a non profit international aid organization. We raised over 2 thousand dollars, spread the word, and appeared in the school news paper.
Model UN
VP of a community service club since sophomore year
International Club VP
Assistant curator of the spring art show at our school
Work Experience:
Volunteered for the Smithsonian for a summer
Volunteered at the NIH (still employed)
Volunteered at the National Zoo (still employed)
I have 270+ hours.
I’ve taken 7 AP: got four 5’s and three 4’s.
I’ve always taken honors courses if they were available.
GPA: 3.6
Weighted GPA: 4.21
My major is most likely Political Science so I will be applying to CAS RD.
I am considering taking the SAT again and focus heavily on Critical Reading so that I can have a high superscore and a better "out of 1600" score.
thanks in advance!

@ jnd - you definitely have a better chance with CAS ... Stern is quite competitive and your SATs just aren't high enough. Improve them to at least 2150+ and you might be closer to Stern acceptance. You're going to have to knock the math section out of the park though. Your GPA is also quite low for a Sternie. You might want to try CAS and then later, you can try to transfer. You'll have to get amazing grades at NYU, however, because transferring is hell.
@ organic - I think you're pretty good for CAS.
@ craig - I think you're good for CAS, but for Stern, you might be on the fence.

dang it's been a long time since the last time i wrote something here...but I'm here to give back what I received back when I was a Senior.
@Craig
Your GPA is just about average or a bit below Stern's; keep in mind that Stern's avg SAT is around the upper 1400's. So it's a low reach for you....but for cas i'd say it's a match with your scores.
But hey, I got into Stern with a 31 ACT which is about the same with your SAT scores, so keep bumpin up that GPA and those SATs

your GPA, ECs and class rank are terrific. raise your SAT math score (or take three SAT IIs) and you'll have a great chance for Steinhardt. i'm in media in Steinhardt.

I think if you have a pretty good GPA (3.95 or so that is unweighted) then your SAT Score doesn't have to be very high. The admissions committee could take you if you have a good essay, EC's, recs, and GPA.

I'm an expatriate currently living in Mumbai. I am a senior at an international school there and am taking the IB.
SAT I:
M: 800
CR: 720
W:770
SAT II:
Math II: 800
(only one I've taken so far)
Also, all of my standardized tests I've only taken once, if that makes a difference.
GPA: 3.3 unweighted
ECs:
I've been in many jazz bands at my school, and was partially responsible in the starting of another one in my junior year. Also, over the summer I've been working at a shelter for kids school have been affected by HIV/AIDS.
What are my chances at CAS and Stern? And also can I apply ED to one of them and RD to the other? Or apply RD to both?
