Write a haiku, limerick, or short (eight lines or less) poem that best represents you

From the NYU Supplement..

I am writing a haiku but it is so hard to write something that best represents me in 3 short short lines.. anyone have any suggestions or willing to share theirs?

just a small town girl
she took the midnight train going anywhere
don't stop believing

lmao. . . i'm joking.

that's a tough one.

i'd make it tongue in cheek, if you're doing a haiku. i didn't have this prompt on my application.

i really like Steinhardt
would love to study movies
maybe television

NYU is for me
it's a match made in heaven
it's my number one

lifelong new yorker
just wants to study culture
maybe go abroad

we're all slaves to media
you can't escape it at all
might as well study it

i could go on forever.

(i write haikus in class when i'm really bored. usually, they're haikus about top 40 songs. example:

ready for those bright lights?
what would you give up for fame?
would you die for it? = lady gaga's paparazzi

etc.)

just start writing lots of them. count syllables on your fingers if you have to. with the haiku, NYU just wants to see how you think outside of the box, which i suspect was the aim of the "you have to sing a song" prompt that i had. after a while, you just get a feel of how to phrase things so they fit into the haiku structure.

I decided to step away from the haiku and go for the short 8 line poem. If you are having trouble getting your voice across, I would suggest you do the same.

see, in my opinion, i would considering going for the haiku pretty ballsy and fearless. there's not much to mess up in a haiku.

think about your hobbies, and your dreams and how they contrast with everyday and how this can be bettered by going to NYU like

head is in the clouds
'cause the sky is the limit
NYU is IT!

if you're an athlete

play {the game} with all my strength
enough's left to claim the world

There once was a girl named Sue
Who wanted just NYU.
She applied, got rejected,
Was sad and dejected,
So she moved to Kalamazoo.

i have a question. in addition to wriitng the haiku do applicants need to answer all the questions in the application or can they just choose one? (in your case it would be the haiku??)

I'm pretty sure you have to answer all of them.
I saw the haiku thingy and was like "say what????" I'm so bad at those!

Will it hurt if I write something really abstract? I put a lot of meaning into it but it's pretty ambiguous and seemingly nonsensical, and I doubt they'll spend time interpreting it.
