translatedpoorly, not true. People cannot stay in your dorms whenever you want. The rules state that the same overnight guest cannot stay for more than six nights in one month. Getting a housing violation is not something you want to do. You also don't want to **** off the guards in your building. Granted some are more strict/obnoxious/dedicated about their jobs than others but that's the rule. I know about three people whose significant others didn't abide by those rules and were caused very annoying problems not the least of which was having their NYU I.D. confiscated along with their driver's license, which NYU mailed back to the DMV. Yeah, no fun.
To you freshmen, the other thing you have to consider is your roommate. It's not cool to sexile your roomie too often. It's best to discuss these issues early in the year and work out a system which works best for both of you.
