Nguyen0824, University Towers is a dorm that is privately owned and operated. Thats is to say it really has nothing to do with NCSU except that it sits on the edge of campus. You sign a contract with Univ. Towers. It has a swimming pool and it's own cafeteria. I believe it costs more than regular NCSU housing. Also since it has it's own cafeteria, you would not be eating meals in Fountain dining hall with all the other students (without paying extra I mean). My S didn't want to live there. His friends brother had lived there and didn't like it.
Sullivan is an Honors dorm. It's a suite style dorm. It is on West campus, furthest away from most class room buildings. There are some Honors dorms on East Campus that have been recently renovated. I don't know much about them.
Owen and Tucker are all freshmen dorms. They are in the heart of Cental campus, right across from Carmichal gymnasium and very close to the Free Expression tunnel ( a quick walk to class). They are old dorms (built in the 1940's) so they have the largest rooms and with only 4 floors each there is no waiting for elevators. They are hall dorms, no suites. That means only a couple of large community bathrooms per floor. My S loved living there. Only downfall is that you cannot stay after freshman year.
Next to Owen is Turlington and Alexander. They are dorms of the same vintage as Tucker and Owen. Alexander is where the International students live but American students can live there also. I know a guy who lived there with a Chinese student all 4 years. Turlington just got air conditioning last year so it should be much better to live in now.
Between Owen and Tucker is the Tri Towers (Bowen,Carroll and Metcalf). They are high rises and are all suites. Those 5 dorms form a sort of horseshoe around a nice grassy area with trees and a sand volleyball court. It is known as Tucker Beach. A lot of socializing goes on there I think.
Central campus dorms are the shortest walk to class.
Food is OK. My S got the Freedom pass meal plan (all you can eat any time of day) his freshman year but he works out a lot and is a big eater. There seems to be a pretty good variety of food and no matter what meal plan you get it is all you can eat at each meal. NCSU has it's own dairy (yay, sch. of agriculture) and so there is NCSU homemade ice cream available at every meal, even breakfast! The cafeteria serves special meals at holidays which S said were always good.
