Based on your grades, you have a very good chance of getting in. From what I heard, SAT is not very emphasized at NCSU and the average for many departements is as low as 1700.

What section did you do the worse in? The best way to improve your score is to take lots of practice tests and understand why you got questions wrong.

The SAT is a wierd test b/c i had around a 1650 for like 3 tests straight and then out of the blue I scored like an 1850... i didn't really do anything different but i did focus A LOT better. Your GPA showes that you are smart enough to do great on this test. Really focus and don't get of task on the test.

In all honesty, listen to nguyen. Take some practice tests. The exact same types of questions are used so study the format.

Best of Luck,

Josh

p.s. i don't know what you should do about the writing section because i could never get over a 590 for it. but u can study the grammar questions. : )

What about taking the ACT. I hear alot of people say they do better on the ACT then the SAT

My son is a rising junior and will prob be going to NC State as well.

Ranked 3/412 SAT about 1900 but will be taking again - he also wants to take the ACT - his dream school is Duke - which he prob wont be going to unless he changes his major..

Right now he wants to become a Chemical Engineer (undergrad) and then Nuclear ENg (Grad). thats his plan anyway.

When you send in your October score they will see the other. But if you're after merit money you'll need to send them:

"Early Action admissions are non-binding — applicants have until May 1 to notify NC State of their decision.
**Application for admission must be submitted and complete by this date (including at least junior-year SAT/ACT scores) to be considered for any merit-based freshman scholarships.**"

My son is planning on taking the SAT I in October for the 2nd time and applying in September. There's a place on the application to list dates you have taken or plan to take the SAT.

My S (now an NCSU Jr.) took the SAT in Dec. of junior year in h.s.
He sent in his NCSU app. in Sept. and took the SAT again in Oct. designating on the test that the score be sent to NCSU.

Not really... but surely a good score will impress the admissions board. From what I have read on their website, collegeboard, and seeing some of my friends applications who were accepted, State does not put A LOT of emphasis on SAT and other standarized tests. If your scores are low, put extra effort into your application and do all the optional sections (write a great personal statement) and you should be fine. On the other hand, good scores can stregthen an application.

Best of luck,

Josh
