I know it cant hurt to send some with an application, but since NC state doesn't require any, is there any use to it? Do they still expect you to, even though they don't require it?

S is expecting a really good recommendation from a teacher he's known for years and will be sending that one in.

I think admissions would say to send them in if they expected to see them.

According to NCSU's Common Data Set, recommendations are "considered," which means they'll read them if you send them in. By far the most important factors listed, however, are class rigor, GPA, rank, and test scores.

I sent two or three in last year... I still got in. They are just considered supplements to a good application.
