Does anyone know if the admissions stats are much higher at NC State for those applying Early Action as opposed to Regular Decision? Do they defer to Regular Decision if not admitted for Early Action or would they deny admission outright if his stats should get him admitted? My son will have pretty good stats but I wasn't sure if it would be disadvantageous to apply early if he didn't have amazing stats. Thanks for any info.

If he has pretty good stats, I would say go ahead and apply early. My S and his friends all applied early. Some of them had stats that weren't amazing and still got in. A lot of it depends upon which College your S plans to apply to.

We've exchanged emails before, Packmom. Much like your son, mine is interested in Engineering and an NROTC scholarship. He has taken the toughest courses his school offers including about ten IB and AP courses by the time he is done (currently a junior). He's gotten all A's and B's so far. He just took the SAT last weekend for the second time. He scored a 1270 (M and CR) the first time but did better on CR than M. I think that will change this time. Anyway, I just didn't want him to apply Early Action if, for some reason, his odds were much better with RD. Thanks.

Early application looks better despite most people's opinion - what I have heard. I applied early with very similar stats as your son (but grades were predominately A's). He'll be fine.

According to US News 80% of students enrolled applied early action. This is probably because in order to be considered for scholarships you have to apply by Nov. 1. I also realize that "Enrolled" does not mean "accepted", but with over 50% of the accepted students attending it gives the impression that the EA acceptances are high.
