CALS Scholarship

Does anyone have any information on the scholarship regarding the amount of money, when they distribute the money. The deadline was today! Information from past winners will be great!

For what it's worth, my S has had received a departmental scholarship (not CALS though) for the last three years. He did not receive notice that he would be getting the scholarship until sometime in June (2 weeks after high sch. graduaution). They tell you in the awards letter how much the scholarship is worth. It varies from dept. to dept and there is usually a minimum gpa you must maintain to keep the scholarship. S's scholarship requires 3.2 minimum gpa.

You never actually see the money unless it exceeds the cost of attendance (unlikely) in which case you get a refund. The money goes straight into your account at the NCSU Cashier's office during the summer. It is then applied to the balance you owe for the coming semester. The bill from NCSU will show how much you owe after the scholarship money has been applied.

The lady that is in charge of CALS scholarships is Pam Warrick (you can look her up on the NCSU directory if you’d like more information). According to her, the scholarship application makes you eligible for many private donation scholarships - the money is distributed by the criteria that the particular donator requested (i.e. race, career goals, geographic location, etc.). I applied this year too for the returning students application. Best of luck to us both.

Yes, good luck to you both. My S (and his parents!) have been extremely grateful for his (2)merit scholarships. Oh, I forgot to mention, he also has to write a letter once a year to the sholarship sponsors, sort of updating them on how he's doing in school and expressing his gratitiude for the scholarship. He also has to attend a dinner every spring at the McKimmon Center where he and the rest of the scholarship recipients from his dept. meet and eat dinner with their scholarship sponsors. He gets all the info about that stuff emailed to him from the financial aid office and his major dept.
Best of luck to you.
