Math Placement Test

Does anyone have any insight on the math placement test given by NC state. Do you have to pass one level to move on the next or what? How does it work?

Did you take AP Calc. in high sch? If you did and made at least a 2, you can start off in Calc. 1 without the placement test I believe.

No, I was not able to take calc, and the bad thing was I did not realize the cut off for taking taking the SAT II was this past week. Last year, they accepted the one given in the summer (as far as I knew)

the_almost, According to the NCSU website, if you did not take the Math SAT II, you will need to take the NCSU Math placement test online before coming to Orientation. The deadline for taking the test is June 12. After completing the test, you will be given your score and told what the appropriate math class is for you.

Just did another search on the NCSU website..saw June 12 on one page and June 1 on the undergrad. admissions link above. Guess you shoild go with the earlier one just to be safe.

Just took the test! It isn't for a grade or anything. It's just a recommendation of what you should take. you don't have to follow it. It gave me a broad range of classes to take, from a simple 103 class to Calculus II (I haven't even taken Pre-Calculus). You shouldn't worry too much about it, really, unless math is going to be your major.
