My Chances? RD

Sorry, I know these get old but thanks to everyone who offers an opinion. I would be applying REGULAR DECISION and would like to know if NCSU would be appropriate to use as a SAFETY SCHOOL. (near 100% certainty of admission)

Caucasian Male
GPA: 3.96/4.71 (1 B that was a 92 in an honors course)
Rank: 3 of about 550 (Competitive Suburban Public School)
6 total AP’s – 4/5 scores, A’s in all so far
All honors courses other than few electives that correspond with intended pathway of business.
SAT: 640 CR/650 Math/760 Writing =2050 :[
In-State Resident of NC
2 Yr. Interact
2 Yr. FFA Member
1 Yr. Basketball Manager/Statistician
1 Yr Recreational Basketball Participant
FBLA Treasurer (Jr.) and President (Sr.)
2 Yr. NHS
2 Yr. Nat’l Society of High School Scholars
Baseball- JV 2 Years
JV Captain as Sophmore
JV Player of Year Award as Soph
Baseball- Starting Varsity 2 Years
Varsity Baseball Conference Sportsman of Year Award
Probably Varsity Captain- Senior Year
Jr. American Legion Baseball (Summer League)- 3 years
Approx. 150-200 Volunteer hours (Not sure exact number at date I send app in) at local food bank, clothing store, thrift shop, etc. for summer and on occasion during school year
Many Awards (10 or so) from School recognizing excellence in particular areas of study if that helps at all

Essays should be good. It’s the only thing I was satisfied with on my SAT score lol.

I admittedly struggle with the reading section but have scored around 750 Math both times when taking the PSAT and knew I blew the section as soon as I took the SAT. Took it cold and while not enrolled in a math class. Knew I could do the problems just couldn’t remember how!

Taking September ACT and October Sub Tests, both with prep course! Much more comfordtable with ACT! Probably take SAT 1 once more as well.

Depends on what college you're going to be entering to. At State, not only do you apply for acceptance into NCSU, you also apply to to the department (Engineering, CHASS, College of Business, etc). Some departments (Engineering for sure) is a lot harder to get into than others, supposedly, but your stats look great. So you should really have no problem.

Your stats. sound great. You should probably have no prob. gaining admission
to NCSU. But why wait until the last deadline to apply? If you apply early, you will be eligible for scholarship consideration. Early application is not binding but is necessary if you are interested in scholarship opportunities.

It is wise to apply to your "safety" school early so it can truly be your safety. If you apply RD, then you will be waiting until March/April to find out if you even have a safety school in the bag. Don't rely on people telling you that you're a "shoo-in". It may very well be true but it may backfire on you. Remember State universities can only take so many students per class year (esp. at NCSU where, as DDog pointed out, you are admitted based on the college within the university that you are applying to.) Good luck to you.
