Undecided Major - NCSU v UNC:CH

Okay, so I've been accepted into both NCSU and UNC:CH but I'm not sure which I should attend. I'm going into college with an undecided major so that doesn't help me much in my decision. I havn't yet visited either campus yet but I plan to in the future. So, I guess I'm asking which school I should attend based on my undecided major. Does one school offer more to help undecided majors than the other?

Things pushing me towards NCSU:
-I have been raised as a hardcore Duke basketball fan which means I was trained to hate UNC. I know this shouldn't matter but it makes me wonder how comfortable I would really be.
-I enjoy anything related to math and computers. NCSU's School of Engineering seems like a good fit for me. If that doesn't work out, even a Business major sounds nice.
-I know a few people that plan to go to State so I wouldn't be completely alone.

Things pushing me towards UNC:CH
-It's a more prestigious school than NCSU. I would feel better about myself if I went to UNC than if I went to NCSU.
-My family seemed more excited about my acceptance to UNC than to NCSU. Want to make them happy.
- A cheap, public, high ranked school.

Feedback please,
Thanks =]

You have to know somewhat what you want to do in life. Personally the way I think about it is:
humanities- UNC
technology/engineering- NC State

also if you end up not liking one enough, just transfer to the other. Not that big a deal since they are so close.

The one tip I would give you is to think about what is best for yourself. Do not worry about impressing or making your family happy; in the end, this decision affects you and you alone. If you feel more inclined to become an engineer, go to NCSU. Both are great universities, and just because NCSU is known for its math & engineering programs doesn't mean that they don't have good liberal arts, too. I spoke to the current teaching fellows president, a senior, at open house. He majored in English and was very impressed with his professors & surroundings.

Good luck!

You should visit both schools as soon as possible. The atmosphere at NCSU is very different than the atmosphere at UNC-CH. UNC-CH has a more liberal leaning student body, larger Greek presence. For someone who is undecided. NCSU's First Year College might be a good choice. I don't know if Carolina has a similiar program.

You said you would feel better about yourself if you went to UNC. Have you asked yourself why? Is it because of your family's reaction? Is it because, UNC is more highly ranked so you get more satifaction out of knowing that you acheived something that others did not?

Try to not think about the reactions/opinions of others and focus more on what you might be interested in studying and what kind of people/atmosphere you most enjoy being around.

Thanks for the advice. I do plan to visit both campuses soon so hopefully that will help. I also got a call from UNC today (typical congrats and questions deal) so I asked about my undecided major. From what I was told, they work hard with students to help them discover where they want to go and first year students also have the opportunity to take a wide variety of classes at the school of Arts and Sciences. A lot to consider. Tnaks again.
