communications major

Hi I wondering does anyone know about the communications dept. at NC State? My son is a freshman there in First Year College and is seriously considering communications as his major. I just wanted to know how strong was the program, internships, and possible career paths for this major.

Although State does have a relatively good communications program, it is still popularly the "party" major, as in the easiest way to get a degree and get out.

So the prestige of the major is pretty low, but if your son actually is interested in communications and willing to work for it they should easily be able to blow by the competition.

Thanks for the reply. He is pretty sure that's what he wants to major in. Even though he's good in math and science, he says he's not interested in any major that heavily concentrates on that and he defintely doesn't want any major that's research intensive. He has great communication skills, verbal and non-verbal, good listener, keen observer and especially good at argumentation and debate. If he majors in communications, he's leaning toward the public and interpersonal communication concentration. Considering his strengths, do you have any other suggestions of a major that would be a good fit?
