Roommate ?

Soo, I've been assigned my roommate a while ago. We are polar opposites in simple terms, literally nothing alike. As I will be an international student i kinda give a **** about who my roommate is. Obliviously we may in fact get on when we spend some time together when semester starts, but just incase, is one able to change roommates? If so How?

Relax man. Just because you share nothing in common does't mean anything. You might become best friends! You said it yourself, so just wait it out. Its not like he/she will hurt you or anything. If anyone should be looking to switch roommates, he should want to get rid of you because of how you're acting.

I can understand that you might be nervous if this is your first time sharing a room, but living with someone who is different from you may actually help you learn to have a more open mind in the future. There will be lots of times in your life when you will need to learn to get along with people who may not agree with you - and may even irritate you a lot. If you can learn to tolerate others, you will be a lot more successful in life.

Yeah [pixels] & [Totoro66] I understand where your coming from, but I've been at full time boarding school since the age of 8 and have shared dorms the for more than half my life now! So i would say I'm tolerant and trust me i've been with quite an eclectic bunch of roommates in the last 10 years.
I'm pretty easy going, but I will be thousands of miles from home and it would be nice to have a roommate who i would get on with, and my post is quite hypothetical. I myself said I might actually get on with him, but, I was asking if there is a place for students to transfer roommates, JUST IN CASE.

Sooo, if anyone has an answer to the latter part of this reply, it would be nice to know, just in case....

Hey UKpeers, I know how you feel. I personally had the same sort of experience you are describing here. I had roommates all my way through boarding school, and I know how having a roommate that you dislike might affect even your whole year of school.
The good news is that indeed you can request a change of roommate for whatever reason during the first weeks. I am not sure until when, but as soon as you meet your RA you will be able to ask him/her how to request a change.
I know of a friend who changed pretty late into the semester, I think it was like November, he wanted to room with this other guy and they were able to swap roommates.

So yes you can change roommates quite easily. The sooner the better. Just speak to your RA as soon as you guys meet.
