Meal Plan

Son will be a freshman in the fall. I just noticed on his my neu they posted for him to choose a meal plan. Assuming he gets in the living community in Stetson West, what does everyone recommend?

It looks like there is a 15 meal plan with 155 dining dollars, or a 10 meal plan with $190 dining dollars. Not much difference between the two meal plans, about $300. Any advice from current students? Thanks!

I lived in stetson west and had a 10 meal plan and barely used up the plan every week.

nope89 - Did you have 3 meals a day? Did you eat off campus a lot?

I'm still a bit confused as to how the system works...you get dining dollars AND x meals a week?

Thanks.

well what I would usually do is eat once a day at a dining hall and then grab something at outtakes for the weekdays. Weekends I would eat off campus or pick stuff up and eat it in my room. if I missed a meal during the week I would eat at the dining hall on Saturday so I didn't waste it.

Innovational - You've got it right. You get x amount of meals a week to use at the dining hall, and then you have an additional x amount of dining dollars (although the dining dollars do NOT refresh weekly) to use at various places around the campus.

Upperclassmen can go with the profiler plan where you pay for a certain number of meals and they don't expire weekly. At the beginning of the Fall term they usually have a discount/deal going.

Just in case anyone hasn't done the calculations yet, here's what I got.

19 meal plan:
$2800 - $120 Dining dollars = 2680 / [(15 weeks * 19 meals) + 8 guest passes] = $9.15/meal

15 meal plan:
$2585 - $155 Dining dollars = 2430 / [(15 weeks * 15 meals) + 8 guest passes] = $10.43/meal

10 meal plan:
$2245 - $190 Dining dollars = 2055 / [(15 weeks * 10 meals) + 8 guest passes] = $13.01/meal

5 meal plan:
$1140 - $45 Dining dollars = 1095 / [(15 weeks * 5 meals) + 8 guest passes] =
$13.19/meal

Profilers:
$590/50 meals = $11.80/meal
$1005 / 86 meals - $11.67/meal
$1275 / 110 meal = $11.60/meal

I believe they have the cost for an individual visit at the locations themselves so if anyone is planning on stopping by Levine someone might appreciate those prices. I think breakfast was something like $8 and dinner was around $14.

What meal plan should I take as a freshman? I was planning to take the 15 one, but is it really a waste?

And when and how do I sign the Master Promissory Note?

Yes, it is a waste. I guarantee you will not want to get up extra early to go to the dining hall for breakfast.

I couldn't even tell you about the MPN. It was such a mess last year for me. I called Northeastern a bunch of times and they weren't very helpful. I just kinda did what I thought was right and it was, but I had no clue what I was doing. THe whole financial aid system is confusing.

yeah, go for the 10. I had it and almost never used all 10, 15 is definitely a waste.

Is anyone able to sign up for a meal plan yet?...I know it says that it is time to sign up for a meal plan in the welcome tab, but there's nothing in the self-service tab on my myneu.

go for the 10. you'll probably want to get some chances to eat out without feeling like you're wasting your meals.
