Music Scene at Northeastern

Hey this may seem like a fairly unimportant thread compared to other threads, but it is just something I was wondering about Northeastern and Boston in general. How is the music scene there? In other words, are there any bands at Northeastern? Are there any decent clubs/venues nearby to catch decent bands? I am just wondering because I am heavily involved in music, and I will definitely need some kind of constructive hobby, and I am wondering if it is even possible to be in a band or something while at Northeastern. I dont live there yet but come on, its in the heart of Boston.

Of course theres an awesome music scene.

Berkeley College of Music, you may have heard of it, is right down Mass Ave. There are jazz clubs and other places too that you can hang out at. Some might be 21+ after a certain time, but they still exist.

House of Blues, Orpheum theater usually have pretty good shows. and yeah, with Berkeley college of music, Boston conservatory, and New England conservatory all within a mile radius... I'm sure you'll find places to play/see music.

How about opportunities to play sax in campus groups, if excellent muscian but non-music major ?

colorado mom: there are a variety of opportunities available for non-music majors. S is an engineering student and has been involved in both concert band and jazz band during the past 3 yrs. Here is a link to info on their music dept site (various bands are listed under the Performance link; you may also want to note that they offer a few scholarships each yr to talented freshmen, and you do not need to be a music major to apply/audition!)

scansmom - Thanks very much. My son plans to major in Engineering, but he loves tenor sax / jazz band (and other bands and piano and composing too). It's hard for me to picture him without music, so I'm glad to hear that NEU would offer a chance to keep doing it.
