@Ohboi: I don't think it's overwhelming at all. Technically, honors classes are not designed to be more difficult, just smaller. But sometimes they are indeed more difficult I guess. You just have to take 6 honors classes your whole time @ Northeastern (as well as do some other stuff that I don't really know about... like some Junior/Senior project thing). I'm taking 3 (two 4-credit courses and one 1-credit course Enhancing Honors that everyone has to take and not many people like but it's really not bad at all and the one hour a week counts as a whole honors course). Everyone is automatically considered for the honors program and you will find out in your acceptance letter if you've been invited.
@colorado_mom: My roomie is an engineer in the honors program... what questions do you have specifically? I can try to ask her for some input. What type of engineering is your son interested in?
@collegesgirl: There are some full tuition scholarships... I suggest you check out
NU Scholarships -- Northeastern University Student Financial Services. I don't know of anyone getting full merit aid. I'm not too knowledgeable of others' merit aid, but I do know a few other people who got $14k/yr as well from the Dean's Scholarship (I think that scholarship might give out up to $16k/yr. For most full tuition scholarships, I'm pretty sure you need a TON of leadership/extra curriculars/community service/etc.
