Chosen where you want to live? And can current students share info/opinions?

For ED-ers who've been accepted, what's everyones thoughts on where to live? (ex- south campus vs north campus, dorm vs res college)

and input from current freshmen or students would be AMAZING

Do a quick search--there are multiple threads about this each year. Also, check out the FB groups for 2011 and 2012 (haha i am SUCH a creeper) as they have plenty of info/opinions.

Bobb sucks. Elder, however, is worth considering regardless of if you're a south campus person or not (I live on South Campus, my girlfriend and half my friends in Elder)

Don't trash a dorm unless you've lived in it, okay?

My piece of advice is to not depend so much on the N/S "type" or divide when considering housing. It's not a rule of thumb by any means. It's this imagined divide that contributes a lot to the cliquey-ness of our campus.

The divide you mentioned... do you mean between N/S or like reserved/outgoing dorms, or what?

julius, I hear people who live there trash it quite it enough to be able to say the facilities suck. I realize I amy not have been clear in my post, so I'll clarify now that that's what I meant. I know pelnty of great people in Bobb. And I've found the N/S divide to be pretty accurate for the most part. However, I would urge any new student to realize that they may change a lot once they get to campus if they allow themselves to grow. I never would've seen myself spending time on North Campus or in the fraternities, but now I can't imagine a weekend without at least getting there once.

I'm in ACCI this year, and it's pretty easy to get into, or so it seems. I totally BSed the essay, probably wrote it in like 5 minutes, but it's a relatively cool dorm: quiet when you need to study, right next to frats, across from Bobb, so parties aren't a problem. BUTTTTT... our Munchies SUCK. I always see Bobb get like Chipotle and Potbellies...and we get like ****ing appetizers from Koi. Actually, our best thing was Jamba juice, but that was like, one time. Other than that, it's sweet being close to parties but still having a great atmosphere to study, right next to SPAC and Patten (great gyms), and close to Lisa's for whatever. Overall a good dorm, but I think I'm gonna change it up for next year. Who knows, maybe I'll stay...I have a sweet view of the beach and Lake Michigan when I wake up...

The campus is divided with most arts/humanities buildings located down south, social sciences scattered in the middle, and our hard science buildings up north. Since students want to live closer to their classes, more science kids live up north, more artsy/journalism/humanities focused kids live down south. The frats are up north, so that helps create more of a party atmosphere in some of the dorms up north. However, southern dorms are located closer to Evanston so students there take more advantage of the stuff in downtown Evanston. With that said, I'm a film major who lives way up north and I love it because I live with people completely different from my classes and I know so many more people this way. When it comes down to it the campus is not that large to create a problem if you live up north if you're journalism or south if you're engineering.

Fun fact: When the sorority quads were being built the University president had a daughter attending and ordered them to be built a mile away from the fraternity quads. Way back then, only women were primarily pursuing the humanities, while only men were pursuing science/medicine, thus the humanities/arts buildings are down south and the science buildings up north.

Go for Elder before Sargent, unless you have a compelling reason not to. But thats just my opinion.

So is Elder much more social/fun than Sargent? That's the general feeling that I've gotten from reading a lot of the posts. I don't really know that much about what Sargent is like, other than the fact that it's right next to where all my classes will probably be. Hahaha.

so far, i haven't heard much about jones. what type of people live there? it's a good fit for me from the standpoint that it has practice rooms and it's on south campus and it's artsy....but i'm just not sure about it....please let me know your opinion! thanks :]
