| S - yes, we went strictly to see shows - it was fun. we saw Rent again because my husband hadn't seen it, Spring Awakening, Grey Gardens and Altar Boyz. Enjoyed them all, but was a little disappointed in Grey Gardens (too much hype maybe). |

| I need to find a school that has an awesome program, but isn't way out of my reach. Northwestern's MT program seems way out of my reach. I guess that's everyone's dream though, to train with students much, much better than them so as to improve. The only problem is getting into the same programs as those students. |

| I believe that the initial admission to Northwestern is to the university itself. Only later do stdents audition for the Musical Theatre program. ALthough, there may be an audition to help with admission to the school as a freshman as well. Northwestern is highly selective academically.
Can anyone who is currently going (or will be going in the fall) to Northwestern offer insight into the admissions process? |

| There is no audition to get into Northwestern as a freshman. It is a very selective university. There is an audition at the end of the first year if you wish to get into the MT Certificate (a BA) program. 20-25% are accepted from those who audition and students come from either the Theater Dept. or the School of Music – last year 180 freshmen auditioned and 20 Theater majors and 8 Voice majors got in. The MT Certificate program is within the BA Theater degree and has 30 kids per year. |

| Just a quick update... My son is now a sophomore in the MT program at NU, and couldn't be happier. He's had some amazing opportunities and great parts, and is thrilled to be involved with the workshop and staged reading for the latest AMTP show. He's Assistant Director for one of NU's acappella groups, and finds time to work on his own original songs. He's very happy with his decision to attend NU and with the faculty, and with the level of talent he's seen in so many of the students. The campus has snow-covered trees in the winter (and yes, freezing cold!), the beach and Lake Michigan are steps away in the summer, and the temperatures in between are perfect. Most importantly, though, the environment is creative and nurturing, the people are friendly and fun, and the music and theatre classes are top-notch. I'm sure he'd be glad to answer any questions. |

| G...great to hear from you and an update on what your son is up to. It seems like NU has been all he had hoped for and he is doing GREAT things! It's cool to be working on new musical works. And I know about the love of collegiate a capella and the work that goes into directing it. I know some kids applying to NU this year and am always recommending it to students for whom it is a good fit. As well, the summer program, The National High School Institute (Cherubs), which I recall your son once having attended, has been much loved by several kids who I know who have attended in recent years. Keep the upates coming.
PS....my D's female friend from many summers at theater camp and with whom she has been in several productions, and who has been on Broadway, is in your son's class, I think...BH. |

| hmm... I can't think of who you're referring to, but I don't know many of his classmates yet. I am thoroughly enjoying getting to know them through their performances, though -- it's so interesting and fun. Is she in MT or Theatre? I've only met one NU student so far who's been on Broadway, and he graduated last year (TG). It's good to hear from you! |

| The girl I mean that goes to NU...I am not positive if she ever did a deferral after being admitted or not...she is my daughter's age which should make her a sophomore if she did not defer. She has been in both straight plays and musicals on Broadway as well as off Broadway. She did both drama and musicals at my D's theater camp and was in musical productions with my D. I don't know if she only wants straight theater or the MT Certificate at NU. I only know that's where she was headed and am not sure the rest. She has the same agent as my D. She is from the midwest. She had to do some HS in NYC due to being in shows at the time. If you wish to email me, I could tell you her name. It doesn't really matter. I know kids applying there now and many who have in the past, as well as those whom have done Cherubs.
EDIT...I know that besides the three Broadway shows she was in, she was in an Off Broadway well known play last fall and from what I have read, she entered NU (or planned to) a quarter late. She also has been on TV shows. So, she may be in your son's class but entered late due to her run Off Broadway a year ago. I know she is at NU as I see her name in a cast list there.

| soozievt...I know you who are talking about. I am pretty sure she deferred just for fall quarter to finish up whatever she was doing.
She is going to be on the new Sound of Music recording that they are putting out. she is awesome...well from the few times that we have hung out. |

| Typecastme...hey, cool that you guys have met! Her delay in enrolling last fall was because she was in the off Broadway production of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie with Cynthia Nixon. If you say you "met" the mom of her camp friend from Vermont, she'll know who you mean....or say "Leading Player" in their mutual production of Pippin. She is a talented young lady and a nice person. |

| Soozie, what a small world musical theater is. My daughter also knows BH because they attended MPulse together in 2005! They still keep in touch through facebook occasionally and she knew of her involvement in the Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. She was one of my D's favorites at MPulse. We also love to watch the Law and Order SVU reruns, and occasionally see the one which BH had a featured role in! Now we will have to meet your D, who I'm sure must have mutual friends at NYU with my D. Some day no doubt! |

| Last weekend at Northwestern's Family Weekend I had the pleasure of meeting edmondsg, her son and typecastme. My son is in the same a cappella group as edmondsg's son and was also in a play with typecastme, Brooklyn Boy, that ran this weekend. Both the a cappella show and the rehearsal of BB were wonderful and filled with talent!!!!! So I echo nydancemom in the sentiment of what a small world MT actually is. |
