Hi edmondsg-D really enjoyed the Cherubs program. It was different than the summer program she did before (CMU). And the 2 meshed well. It had very long days and was very physically intensive. There was not really any "homework" (i.e. reading plays; researching monologs/songs, etc ) as with CMU, so it was somewhat less than the true "college" feel and more summer camp-like but INTENSE. The faculty were outstanding!! The program is well organized. And the kids she met were great and still keep in touch. If you have further questions feel free to PM me.

Glad to hear she enjoyed it! My son was a cherub two years ago and loved every minute, despite the physical and emotional challenges!

My D also LOVED the Cherub program. She loved both the physical and intellectual stimulation. It was a great group of kids and they all still keep in touch. She found that she loved the Northwestern campus and the theater program and it became her top choice for college. She was just accepted Early Decision as were 15 of her fellow Cherubs! I would highly recommend it!

Does the Cherub program have a dance classes? My son has added dance (6-8 hours each week) to his love for MT. Are there other summer MT programs that offer a good dance component?

kardan - you may want to look into Broadway Theatre Project. My D attended the summer of '06 and loved it.

The 5 week Cherub program has lots of movement -- yoga and other techniques in order to get the actor in touch with his inner core (or something like that). They even have to run as a group! There are also electives. My D has taken lots of dance for about 10 years and took jazz as an elective. The 2 week Musical Theater Extension has dance and my D took more dance courses at that point. There was not an emphasis on dance, however. More of an emphasis on a well rounded performer. It was an incredible program -- life changing according to my D -- and I would highly recommend it

Thanks for your comments about Cherub dance component. I also checked out the Broadway Theater Project. It looks like a great program as well.

I noticed "activity" on this thread and felt I owed the potential '08 applicants to the Cherubs program encouragement to give it strong consideration. S continues to see it as one of the positive influences on his successful audition season during senior year '07. Given the number of classmates at CMU with him from the '06 Cherub group, he's probably correct. Whether the Cherub program is just successful in selecting the kids who will do well in their college process or whether those kids got the additional training at NHSI that moved them to a more prepared level is probably impossible to evaluate. But it's safe to say that Cherubs is a strong addition to the experience composite.
