| Getting there...
I'm sure most out of state students will have the same question...
what is the best way to move our stuff there?
there's simply too much to move with air, and too little to move with moving truck o_o
my parents are thinking of driving there, but i live in cali!! it'll take a week or so to get there!
any plans/advice?

| bed bath and beyond: you can go to your local store, choose whatever you want, and then they will hold the same stuff at one of the stores here. then things like clothes etc you can just bring on the plane or ship | |

| Yes, I second the Bed, Bath, & Beyond thing. Do that, and then fly there with your parents. With you and them, you can bring six suitcases, which technically SHOULD be enough if you can pack it well. Then ship the remaining things. | |

| But that was back in the days when the airlines would let each person take more than one checked suitcase! No more 3 suitcases per person, and even that 2nd one will cost you on most airlines now. | |

| Don't most airlines still do two? I just recently flew on Delta and United with two...? But yeah I remember the third one would cost $100 extra. | |

| ^i think they allow one suitcase and one "personal item", which is more like purse, laptop..etc, not another suitcase. | |

| Not as of Monday, May 5.
With the exception of Southwest Airlines, all of the major carriers -- Delta, Northwest, US Airlines, Continental, United -- will permit JUST ONE CHECKED BAG free of charge, starting on that date. (You can still carry on one bag plus a "personal item" such as a purse or laptop.)
Some of the airlines will still permit you to check a second bag free of charge if you buy a first-class or business-class ticket or if you have "Elite" Frequent Flyer status (meaning you fly beaucoup miles per year). | |

| Possibly try traveling with American then, I guess? They still allow two. I'm really surprised at Delta though--I travelled with them in January with two!
And yeah, if all else fails, Fed Ex is usually pretty reasonable for shipping packages. : ]

| American Airlines does still allow two free checked bags but only for a few more days.
Anyone flying on American with a domestic economy class ticket purchased on or after 5/12/08 is allowed ONE FREE CHECKED BAG. You will be charged $25 for a second checked bag and $100 for a third bag. | |
