AP Credit.

I just a few questions about NU AP credit. I will be going in McCormick, I will be taking AP Physics, AP Eng Lit, AP Calc BC and AP Gov.

I definitely know that I can get credit for the Calc BC and AP Gov.

I definitely know that I can't get credit for the Physics B.

However, for the English it says "English (Language or Literature) -- 2 English courses". Does this mean that if I've taken the English Language, and gotten a 5 (which I have) that the English Literature test is meaningless? Thanks.

it's two more electives.

but i don't quite know what that means exactly.

are the english electives only applicable if you're an english major?

no. They can be used as elective credit, or they are also useful as "having taken" those extra credits. NU requires that you take at least 45 credits to graduate (4 per quarter = normally 48). If you want to drop a class, however, and only take three one quarter, then you have more cusion with the AP courses to make sure you have the 45, but you likely wont be dropping more than 3 courses during your collegiate career.

So, with two extra english courses, you would only have to physically take 43 classes at NU, with the extra two soaked up as AP Credit.

Under the same logic, if you have enough credit you could potentially graduate a quarter or two early.

I'm a little confused about this system-- So if I get AP credits for classes, does that mean my courseload during the year will be substantially less? Or will I just have to take more electives? (I have a 5 in Calc BC, World History, EngLit, Stats, U.S. Gov&Politics, Micro, and Macro.)

I'm not so sure about that, but I think it could go either way. But you might be benefited in double majoring?

first, i believe you can only get two ap credits for english. second, english ap credits don't get you anything except "elective credit", there are no correlating classes. for example, if you get a 5 on calc ab, the correlating classes are math 220 and math 224, so you get two credits, one for each of them, which you then skip once you get here, and can count towards your major. for english, ap credit just counts off the total number of credits you need (45, which becomes 43). it does not count towards any major or towards distrobution requirements, which other aps do.

in mccormick, i heard that you have to take a placement test for math. is that just for placement, or can you get credit for that? or do you just get placement from that but credit from an ap calc exam????!

ok so i have taken these APs and have gotten 5s on them
macro
bio
calc bc

can i use them all for credit? i looked at the NU website and it says i get some kinda credit for them yet i look it and people mention "elective credit"

and what about AP psych?
i just took that today and im pretty sure i got a 5, but i totally bombed that physics C exam.....
