| Printer? Does my son need to bring a printer for his room? What's the general consensus?
Thanks for the info! |

| i was actually wondering about the same thing.
a few college kids from various places told me that it is recommended because you don't wanna be running 3 floors down to the printer at 4am only to find that you made an syntax error and you have to reprint it. |

| Yeah get one, just don't waste too much money. I got this crummy Lexmark thing for like $30 and it's terrible and slow but it does the trick when I need it to. |

| i'm using an hp1020, its a laser printer, which is great for general student use i think. No color, but typically thats ok, since its not too difficult to find some way to print color (dorm might have it, library, friend). I've had this printer for 2 years and printed at least 2 reams of paper. Double sided! And i haven't had to change the toner yet =). Compare that to any old inkjet that someone else is going to be using!
Cost me about 100. It's similar to the 1018, both of which i think are possible to find cheaper these days. |

| Yes, get a printer. I'm my dorm's tech chair, and it astounds me how fast the printer goes through toner, and how many complaints I get. Ugh!
I personally use an Epson Stylus C120, and I'm very happy with it- it's VERY fast, and/or VERY crisp print quality. Epson Stylus C120, Overview - Product Information - Epson America, Inc. |

I wasn't planning on it. |

| Many dorms have a printer in their computer lounge, and all the libraries have printers, though those cost money. My original intent was not to, especially since my work study job permitted me to print things there. That was not convenient. I got a printer before the end of fall quarter.
But no, not everyone does. It's just a much better idea if you're lazy, tend to procrastinate, or dont like the idea of walking outside in the cold to print and pay a nickel a page. |

| If I remember correctly, last summer Apple offered a promotion with the purchase of a Mac-a printer for ? $100 and a free Ipod. Ads started to run in August. If you are looking to buy a Mac-you might check to see if they are running the same promotion for students this year. |
