Tution Payment

So by now we all know we have to make the first tution fee payment by the deadline(Sept 1 if I am not mistaken). However, can anyone tell me how do international students make the payment? I looked up and all the payment options require an account in a 'US Bank'. Does that mean my parents have to open an account in a US bank or can the transaction be made otherwise?

Please please do reply! Thanks!

do your parents have an american checking account? they can fedex a check to northwestern, it can be any american bank. if they don't have an american account, they will have to get a money order or something. if that's the case, i suggest you get an american account asap so that in the future they can just wire you the money and you can pay the tuition.

oh, and when you do get an american account, usbank is great because there is a branch on campus as well as multiple ATMs, so withdrawals would be free for you. also, you can link your wildcard to your checking account.

on the flip side, usbank is a small midwestern bank and it's hard to find their atms or branches. so you might want to go with a larger bank like bank of america or chase.

probably not, you usually need to do it in person and present identification. i would recommend opening one as soon as you get to campus.

i would suggest you contact nu to ask about payment options, since you don't yet have an american account. i'm sure you're not the first family to arrange some kind of wire transfer or money order payment, so don't worry!

"US bank" probably just means banks that were incorporated in the US. It doesn't mean their branches outside of the US don't count. Bank of America or Citibank probably have branches in your country.

My NU student is in summer session, and we paid the tuition using VISA. I have not checked yet to see if this option is available for fall, but it was very convenient. (Also, we get airline miles on our card!) There was a $10.00 surcharge.
