Possible to start at SUNY school and transfer out?

Is it possible to go to a SUNY school that does not have nursing as an undeclared major in order to fill prerequisites? As a high school student I have taken several college classes and I was wondering if it was possible to take all courses that pertain to science (not nursing science, but biology, anatomy, chemistry, etc), math, and any other classes without the specific "nursing" title before I transfer into the private school to get my BSN and become an RN. Is this possible?

Certainly this would be possible. When applying for Nursing Programs after your first two years of college you might have better luck applying to colleges that offer initial Nursing admission as a "Nursing Interest" major as compared to colleges that offer "Direct Entry" to Nursing in the freshman year. These latter "direct entry" Nursing Programs generally have few slots for students to transfer into after the first two years of college and preference is often given to students who have completed their first two years at the same college (some may take students from other colleges but the number is usually very small). Also many direct entry 4 year BSN Nursing Programs began nursing courses in the freshman and sophomore years, have fairly rigid sequential progression requirements, and in order to complete their requirements you may end up having to add another semester or year of college so you can "catch up". If you want to initially attend a SUNY without a Nursing Program you might want to check with that school to see if they have any type of Nursing "arrangement" with any other SUNY schools with Nursing Programs which would allow students to more easily transfer from one to the other. There also are a few BSN Nursing Programs at at least a few Universities that are designed just to accept students after 2 years of college (I'm sorry I don't have a list for these schools-perhaps someone else on this thread has more info on this).

An alternative you might want to consider is attending a Community College or Nursing Diploma School Program so you can get your RN license after 2 years of study. You can then apply to RN to BSN Nursing Programs to get your BSN. Actually some of these programs have direct connections with BSN Programs so students can subsequently transfer to the college to get their BSN. Competition to get into these RN/BSN Programs might be a little less intense than the appoach you expressed interest in. In any event you need to check into the Nursing Programs offered at the college you wish to complete your BSN in and see what their overalll requirements are to get the degree. Hope this info is helpful. Best of luck to you in pursuing your BSN.

Yeah that route is a great option. It'll help save some money and knock out the pre reqs. Maybe you could look into certain community colleges, like Mwallenmd said previously.
