International Student Questions

Someone did this last year and it was very helpful for me. So ask away if you need to!

Do you know if they offer intl students any financial aid other than loans?

canucksource, I'm sorry I have very little information on that since I'm in Tisch. I should have specified that, sorry. I know my friend is from Latvia and is a freshman and has done internship already. I think they like diverse applicants, so I doubt there is a big disadvantage being international. Sorry I can't help more!
dodger88, oh I wish they did! Not that I'm aware of, although you can work on campus to earn money (which is what I do). As far as loans, I'm sure you know about the Citibank and Sallie Mae international student ones - I really recommend the Sallie Mae, it was a bit of a pain to set up but works out better in the long run. You could try asking your home government, or writing to wealthy people in your area, that's another thing I did. Also if you can manage to get here for the first year, speak to NYU because, especially if you are a good student, they won't want to loose you and will probably be more helpful with financial aid.

How do I "write to wealthy people?" How do you know who to write to?

Well I'm from Wales so I wrote to Welsh celebrities, particularly actors since I'm studying theatre. Also heads of companies asking if they'd like to sponsor me, this guy who is known for being the wealthiest man in Wales. Just people you know of who are wealthy and give to causes/charities, or people you think may be sympathetic to your cause.

Oh and what I wrote was just a short cover letter describing my achievements, my situation, and politely asking if they would like to help.
