Well listening to isabellissa would make no one in the world want to go to uhall. Yet I have seen people post on this board saying the exact opposite of everything they posted. It'll take more than one person's opinion for me to choose.

The apartment style dorms are a little less sociable because you can't prop the doors open, so it's kind of awkward to ring people's doorbells all the time when you just wanted to poke in.

Don't discount Third North's computer lab and ITS services in the basement: free, unlimited printing and tech support, which is so useful in the beginning of the semester (also, they will rent you routers to use for the semester, which you may need if there's only one internet jack and two roommates). They also have a dining hall and small convenience store in that hall.

Also, the security guards at most of the buildings are wonderful, but the ones @ U-hall have been kind of mean the past few years, and some people don't like that, I suppose.

Isabellissa, I would love to know exactly how often you "spend nights" @ Hayden with the strict guest policies the dorms have? A person can only have 6 "overnight guests" a month (depending on which dorm and how cool the security guards are, the nights can technically start @ like 10 pm, and are considered a "night" after 4-6 hours), a guest can only stay up to 3 days in a row, and an individual is not allowed to sleep in the NYU dorms for more than 6 nights a month. Although there isn't a big database where they record these things, at the end of the month, they tally up everyone from the individual hall's sign in sheet and see if they've exceeded their limit. Then, the next month, if they have, they warn you/are more strict about that person signing in & out and actually keep track (again, depends on the guard).

It is for this reason that inviting people over to your apartment becomes difficult, unless they live in your building. I might be sounding nitpicky or ridiculous, but my boyfriend stayed over 7 times one month Freshman year, and the next month, they kept a tally of how many times he was there. It sounds insane, but NYU is strict on security.

oh and rcny, 3n had really nice guards (when I asked about 3n they said it wa the best dorm so that means they really like working there), the courtyard looked nice (from a distance). Also, it's an app style dorm w/o the stuffy u-hall rep. But all this talk about Hayden... now I'm really not sure...

yeah for me it was either apartment (3n or uhall) or hayden....now i don't know because everyone talks about hayden. my friend at nyu says that 3n is really social and the dining is good so. her list was (best to least): uhall, 3n, and then hayden which she said she preferred Weinstein over Hayden because its dining halls are better.

Ewww...Weinstein...Hayden has a newly renovated dining hall. The only good thing about Weinstein dining is Upstein, which has Quiznos, Chick-Fila, and a burger grill. But Downstein is atrocious...honestly, your friend really shouldn't pick Weinstein over Hayden because of dining halls, because Hayden wins even in that regard...you can always go across the park for a chicken nugget fix. But Weinstein rooms are just...not good, haha. Unless she wants kosher dining, maybe then it might be worth it...I'd still go with Hayden though :-).

NOCCA Junior, do they force us into a low cost triple or is that an option for people that prefer it?

Rubin does NOT force Low Cost Triples; there are plenty of doubles on each floor. And at that, there are regular triples as well.

Well, I don't know about that...there are a LOT of people that are forced into LCTs...and there are those, like me, that requested them and didn't get them. NYU Housing is so weird sometimes...but if you are placed in a LCT and didn't request it, unless, I think, you can find someone to switch with you, you aren't getting out of it. Maybe if you really b****. :-) And that refers, at least, to all the freshman residence halls. I'm not sure about upperclassmen quite yet, but you guys don't need to worry about that anyways.

yea i was thinking third-north too, but so many people keep saying hayden, so idk i'm just like the rest of you guys. brittany has an exploration floor this year though that i'm soooo interested in, so i might choose that if they have it again next year. but that really shouldn't be to be the deciding factor i guess...
i like how hayden is mostly ED so most kids are really into being there and are just excited about having a good time and learning along the way since NYU was their top choice school.
i'm really just SO EXCITED to be going that any dorm i choose would be fun for me!
