Housing: do they put students from Tisch, etc. together?

Someone told me that when kids are assigned housing at NYU (freshmen), the residential office usually tries to put kids in Tisch (or other schools) together in the same rooms/floors, etc. Is this true, or could a CAS English major end up rooming with a Tisch drama student, etc.??

That is not true. Anyone can end up in a room with anyone, they hardly even honor the roommate survey judging from my floor this year. However, there are a number of kids who are rooming with someone in their school, but from what I can tell, no where near the majority.

Some dorms appeal to kids in certain departments, which may explain the probability of getting placed in a suite with someone from your school.... e.g. I've come to find that 3rd North is made up of mostly Tischies, and a good chunk of them are film majors. Possible reasons - 3N has arts-related Explorations floors (fashion, film, etc), a nice big space downstairs with mirrors to practice dancing in, a Final Cut lab... lots of nice stuff.

But yeah, I highly doubt housing looks at your major to decide where you should room or who you should room with... it's all done randomly. I don't even think they care about the survey.
