| Changing Studios in the Tisch program Hi Everyone,
I haven't posted in quite sometime; it was a hectice summer. I am enjoying reading the posts to this thread as I have a daughter who will be a sophomore in the Strasberg Studio. She absolutely loves it. As many of you know from past posts, she actually auditioned for MT (her father mistakenly set up an MT audition, when in fact she had changed her mind and wanted straight drama) so she had to audition with the MT group. She had a wonderful auditor, Lee G., and she was open with him after her audition and said she preferred straight drama over Cap 21 and told him she thought Strasberg would be a good fit. That's where they placed her and it has been great. We just moved her into her new apartment in the East Village the first week in August, which is just three blocks from her studio.
Randy, I do have a question after reading these posts and some of the literature my daughter had with regard to Strasberg; did I understand correctly that they only accept approximately 10 upperclassmen into the Strasberg studio? It would seem to me that it becomes extremely competitive at this level. My daughter has received As in her studio courses, but it is my guess that the majority of students receive similar grades. What do they base the selection on when students are changing or asking to remain in studios their Junior year. Is it possible that the literature I read meant they would only take ten more students, in addition to any of the 3rd year Strasberg students who wish to remain after their sophomore year? Any light you can shed on this would be appreciated. I can't say enough wonderful things about Tisch and their drama program. It has been wonderful watching my daughter learn her craft and the incredible maturity that has accompanied this process. The fit of NYU and their drama program for her has been more than we could ever have hoped for from the college experience point of view. It's kind of hard, though, because this little Midwestern town where we live can't compete with the big city lights of New York. She just spent her last summer with us. Next year she's staying in the city.
Good luck to all the freshman and their parents. You'll be amazed how fast the first year goes by and how much your children will learn.
