| Mboi...ok, we can blame jammed zippers on RossJi's D...if she did costumes....my D apparently did not....I think she did other tech stuff but is now part of the behind the scenes running of the show backstage and what not during the production so if things don't go right in that way, we'll know who is back there, LOL. Let's hope she doesn't fall asleep on some scene or prop change given the lack of sleep entailed with the crew schedule lately.
Seriously, she says the show is really good and do let us know how you like it. |

| This week I am escorting around the campus where I work a person who lives in New York City. I mentioned that my D is very into MT and drama and can't wait until she is old enough to apply to/audition for NYU. He nodded and told me that he and his wife often go to NYU productions and, in his opinion, they are only just slightly below Broadway in quality.
It would be great if we could plan to visit NYU when a production (preferably MT, but a straight drama would be great, too) is being staged. Are there productions throughout the school year, and are they posted anywhere on the NYU Website, in easy view of someone like me?

| NotMamaRose Believe it or not, it's difficult to find out about the productions, even though my daughter goes there! On the CAP21 website, all the musicals are listed as they come up. However, for straight plays, you need to go to the Tisch website and look up the calendar. They're not easy to find, though! |

| theatredivasmom I just heard from my d that there are no more audition appts. for Hair (she's been working many hours at her new job and wasn't able to sign up until today and all the slots are taken). Bummer, huh? |

| Rossij,
My daughter had the same problem a few days ago when she went to sign up for an audition. She checked back yesterday or today and they had extended the auditions so she has an audition at 11:30 p.m. one night this week. I want to say Thursday, but I'm not sure. Your daughter probably already knows this, but she also can go each night and if someone doesn't show for their audition she would then have a chance to audition. I don't know how they keep that organized, but my daughter knows people who have gotten auditions that way when there are no more slots left. The bad part is you have to go every night and hang around, I guess. That was my daughter's plan until she found out they extended the audition time and she got one of the very last ones today when she went to check to see if they had extended. |

| RossJi....I hope your daughter auditions. I remember a while back you thinking she may not but I hope she does. I didn't know she has a job but that is also great as I know you hoped for that! Did you hear what my D told me about Hair (not sure your D told you)....she told me that the actors will be expected to shave their heads! I guess it is the concept of the show. (if this is wrong....please let me say now....this is not a FACT, only what she told me a while back...I better qualify it, LOL) My D has very long hair now, as I believe your D does too. She says she is willing to do that, but thinks it could cut down on the number of girls auditioning, but from what you guys just wrote about the auditions filling up, I guess not! Let the sunshine in..... |

| Susan,
I'm not sure my daughter knows about the head shaving side to the musical. If she does, she didn't share it with me. She has beautiful, thick, lay perfectly straight, long hair. If she can cut her hair for the mainstage I guess we'll know she picked the right career; of course, I think her theory could be that with so many people auditioning it isn't something she needs to actively be concerned with at the present time. By that statement I don't mean to imply she isn't confident; just realistic, given the numbers. ....Hair, Beautiful Hair.... |

| I agree about the being realistic about the odds of being cast....they all are....for now, they gotta just go for it...
So....when they sing:
"I want it long, straight, curly, fuzzy
Snaggy, shaggy, ratty, matty
Oily, greasy, fleecy
Shining, gleaming, streaming
Flaxen, waxen
Knotted, polka-dotted
Twisted, beaded, braided
Powdered, flowered, and confettied
Bangled, tangled, spangled, and spaghettied!"
Do they need to add a line about wanting it "shaved"?
I saw Hair when I was in high school. My D absolutely LOVES this musical and what it is about....her favorite period in history. I think it is rather cool to have this production at this time in our country's history too. And for us parents....it takes us back to the Age of Aquarius.....or to be on topic....Hari Krishna... |

| Hair, or lack thereof! GAAAHHH!! She told me only the GUYS had to shave their heads. Whoa! Anyway, looks like no chance of an audition appt; she has to do homework during the weeknights since she's now working 16+ hours on weekends (at American Girl theater as a child supervisor, lol; she looks younger than some of the actresses there!) so I don't think she can wait around to see if an audition slot opens up. She probably wouldn't mind shaving her head, though; the NYC water does a number on her hair - it's so rough compared to our soft water at home! Hope everyone who's auditioning breaks a leg, though! |

| bald wigs? Can't they just wear bald wigs, if you know what I mean? On the tacky show (yes, I have watched it!) "America's Next Top Model," they made the contestants think they would have to shave their heads, and then everyone was relieved when they learned that they would be putting on bald wigs. They looked VERY convincing.
That said, my own D would hardly hesitate to shave her head for a big role. These theater folk are a breed apart.
Lisa, who would definitely hesitate to shave her head, even though she does daily battle with her own head of hair! |

| This comment about shaving their heads....which my daughter seemed to be saying for either sex...was one of these things she told me in one of her two min. "sound byte" phone calls and it was a while ago. Hard to have a significant conversation....always on the run. I just know she thought maybe less girls would wanna try out because of it (though she had no qualms as she wants to be in Hair) but from what you guys are telling me, there are several nights of auditions that are filled up so plenty of people are auditioning. And Lisa, you are right...they are diehards. I truly don't know the details. Getting cast, my D anticipates, will be very difficult odds. I didn't even know as much about auditions until what you guys posted here, lol.....I just figured everyone auditioned tonight because she said Hair auditions were Tuesday night. I guess she had an appt. then based on the way you are explaining it. As far as bald wigs....I have no idea.
RossJi...that is great that your D got the job...must be neat for her having been on the "other side" at AGP before. I read a post by someone on another forum and wondered if that was you and that was the job being mentioned and so it was after all. I know what you mean about them juggling it all. There are not enough hours in the day and yes, they have a bunch of homework. |

| soozie Yeah, that was me on the other forum. I thought lots of posters on there had daughters at AGP; I guess not anymore! I talked to my daughter today; she said you have an option of checking: bald, not bald; naked/partially naked/not naked, too. Whoa.....I wonder if they have an option of checking: Let grandparents watch/bar them at door? Hmmm..... I guess she was going to TRY to get on the waitlist, but she didn't prepare a song yet. So there went that idea! |

| My D just got out of her audition actually...I get calls on the fly as she walks in NYC. She told me you had to agree to shave head and get naked and she did. She didn't explain "options" to me (like you did)...she joked "Dad couldn't come then!" However, she said, VERY long shot odds...four nights of auditions for four hours a night....tons of kids auditioning. Yeah, your D would need a rock/pop song, not MT one....and some other text/acting thing she explained...not sure the specifics....a poem or such...sorry, it's her thing and I don't know details too much other than what she did. |

| Susan,
I am most definitely not a prude but I'm not sure how I'd respond if this were my D and she were presented with this choice at that age.....I wouldn't care how "mature" she was.....I think I'd have a problem with it. But that's just me. |

Yipppeeee!!! I am so excited for your d and her summer at PCLO--will probably be there in August to move my d into apartment---will she be in any August shows?
Yes, I agree--- I would have a problem with the "naked" request, too!!! |
