NYU GRADS IN Performance

Hi all, I thought that some of you prospective NYU'ers might be interested in seeing what a group of recent grads are doing for the NY Fringe Festival. If you happen to be in or around NYC next weekend you might enjoy seeing "Something More Pleasant" at the Players Theater on Sunday Aug. 20 at 10:00 PM, Monday Aug. 21 at 4:45 PM ,Saturday Aug. 26 at 7:00 Pm or Sunday Aug. 27 at 4:00. The show is being produced by Room 5001 Productions. These are Tisch Grads, mostly from Playwrights Horizons. You can check out their web site at www.room5001.com. I saw the show it is really great, and it is amazing how these 2006 grads have already started to put their mark on the NY theatre scene. My S. is the writer, but I was truly amazed to see how well trained and talented all of the actors were..Hope you all can see the amazing quality of work being done by NYU grads!

Camge,
I just want to wish your son and all of his cast, much luck with this project. It is very exciting. I wish I could see it but I don't live near NYC. Unfortunately, my D is not in NYC right now to see it either. It is wonderful that their play is in the Fringe Festival. Best wishes to all of them and continued success for your son's theater company.

jasmom, which part is your son playing? I'm assuming this is a NYU production because I think I remember reading/seeing Hair as one of the upcoming shows. I'd love to see while I'm up there.

It is, indeed, NYU's Hair (he's excited to be cast in the ensemble), but I don't want to divert this thread from the amazing accomplishments of Tisch grads.

Hi to all, I tried to get Hair tickets, but they went like hotcakes. My S. is seeing it and is looking forward tom it. Let us know how it goes. I thought I would update all of you on the future accom, plishments of my S and his group of NYU Grads. At the present they are auditioning for the "workshop" production of their new musical TULLY( In No particular Order). My S. is the book writer, and graduated from Playwrights. The composer lyricist graduated from Cap 21. They met doing a GAP production of The Mystery of Edwin Drood. I can't say enough nice things about NYU helping out with less expensive rehearsal space, and support. They do support their grads.I know that the Producer is also a Tisch grad as is the lighting designer. Both from Playwrights. I am sure there will be many Tischies in the cast.TULLY will be performed at the Theatre for the New City on the lowere East side on December7,8,9,10. It will not be a full production, but more of a fully staged concert version. I have to give these young people a lot of credit. I think it would be hard to workshop a production in NYC where there are so many critics ready to judge new work. Well here's to hoping it will be a sucess!

camge,
Thanks for the update (and here's a bottle of champagne for your son and his artistic staff). I hope your s enjoyed Hair. They (the Hair folks) created a new piece of theater, and I know my s was proud to be a part of it.

NYU "HAIR" Production

My son was in this very same "Hair" production, and loved every minute of it, from auditions through closed night! My husband and I flew to NYC and saw it on Friday and Saturday nights, and thought the entire cast and production values were great. Congratulations to everyone involved!

Tully

Tonight was the last performance of my s's new musical( workshop) Tully. I must say the cast was truly amazing. In the role of Quinn one NYU grad was so supurb I really just could'nt believe it. Her voice , and acting not to mention her musicality were perfection. Also In the show was a young man who is currently in cap 21. He also was incredible. WOW what talent! He was The musical director of Floyd Collins and Company. Now that is talent. Another young man was Rufus, a truly amusing character, he is at Playwrights horizons and what a voice, what apresence, and yet.... he is a director and designer! That is a real triple threat! I can't say enough about how how all these young people encourage each other. I guess I am just so proud. The folks frrom Playrights horizon( The theater) came to see the show,
We can only hope they pick it up and showcase the NYU students they have trained!

Tully

I was happy to read your comments about this Playwrights Horizons production. My son is transferring into Playwrights next semester after 2.5 years at Cap 21 and is really looking forward to working there. He thinks the studio, students, teachers, everyone at Playwrights -- all have such incredible energy, heart and talent.

Oh, I was hoping you'd report back on Tully! I'm thrilled it went so well. I've met the musical director for Floyd Collins (if you're talking about the GAP production) and I know he's great. Pop the corks! Hurrah for you son and his wonderful cast.
Fannie, I'm sure your son will fit right in and set the bar even higher for his fellow playwrighters.

Playwrights Horizons

Thanks very much!! He auditioned last week and just learned that he's beenaccepted, so he's really excited to be making the move. Ruben Polendo (who teaches at Playwrights and directed Hair) has turned out to be a wonderful mentor. This is the sort of relationship that makes NYU's hefty price tag well worth the struggle.

Tully Moves On !

Hi, I am sorry I am an infrequent poster as my computer so quickly reminds me, but as a teacher it seems as if I am always busy. Many thanks to all of you who have written such wonderful words of congratulations and those of you who cheered me up when the career steps were slow or just not happening. Well it's good news this time. Tully (in no particular order) was accepted in the New York Musical Theater Festival for September! My son Josh (NYU Tisch Playwrights Horizon ) wrote the book. His composer and lyricist( Nyu Tisch Cap 21) and their producer also from Tisch( Playwrights) are thrilled. These are students 2 years out of school, and they were competing with professionals!( Albert Innuato(?) author of Geminii, a Tony award winning show in the seventies has rewritten it as a musical) Anyway 18 shows were chosen to be presented in NYC in September out of 400 submitted. NYU is also being represented by 2 other teams from the Grad Musical Theater writing school. Well thats the good news from life after NYU! Thanks again... Cam

Camge, that is fantastic! He's on his way!

There are several recent Tisch grads doing things in NYC and they network with one another and the opportunities and accomplishments seem to abound. They meet the other talent while going to school there and form collaborations. Many are going places and your son is one of them!

PS....in looking at your son's site and his other shows, I now realize that my daughter likely knows your son or at least knows of him. I see photos from a recent show he wrote and put on and in the photos are one of my D's roomies as well as a young man with whom she is close friends. I believe she went to see that show!

Tully et all..

Hi Soozie, I questioned my S. to see if we could place your daughter but I have to admit every time I asked if one child or another was the daughter of Soozievt my son would look at me strangly. I guess that S... in the Black crook was your D's roomie ? Next time your D sees one of my S's shows have her Identify herself. They should get a laugh out of it anyway. i hope your D is doing lot's of amazing things this year. " Tully" as you know is going up Sept. 20-28 in NYC at the Sage theatre, as a part of the New York Musical Theater festival. My S is learning lots of lessons about how to promote his show. He is also directing. They decided to cast 2 of the cast from the Grease reality show. He really likes both of them but is very amazed at how the hype helps sell tickets. Well I am just back from Vermont and feeling strangely out of place in Ny, so Ill sign off and say so long for now! Cam
