Passed my auditon!!!!! (ED)

Just got a letter today that I passed the audtion part for the Dance department. They said they now need to review my academics. Got my fingers and toes crossed. Can't wait until Dec. 15th. I'm counting the nanoseconds. Good luck to all the future Tischies out there!

Congratulations!! I hope you get in!!

I have kind of a stupid question for anyone who possibly has an answer. Obviously you have to pass both the audition and the academic parts of the application to get accepted. But do they notify you if you get accepted to the school itself even when you're denied admission to any of the drama studios? I'm assuming that they do, but I have never seen evidence of that happening on CC unless I completely missed it or no one has ever posted it.

BreakIntoSong, no, they do not. I'm actually surprised that the Dance department notifies students like this. The Drama department does not. You will get a decision which says either that you have been accepted or you have been denied. They do not break down the decision into academic and artistic comments for the drama kids. At Tisch, if you aren't accepted into Tisch, you aren't accepted into NYU.

Oh wow! That's very strange, but good to know now. I do wish that they would tell you if you didn't get accepted because of academics or the audition itself. But I suppose beggars can't be choosers. Thanks for answering my question, alwaysamom.

lmaty & eilahtan,
Did you both audition for Tisch dance? If so, what was the audition like? My daughter, a h.s. jr. is considering auditioning. One question she had was whether a dance major could do a CAS 2nd major (as is possible for drama majors). Congrats (and good luck)!!!! I hear it's a great program.

jasmom

It is possible to double major but they discourage it. It can not be done as a CAS 2nd major. Because of the heavy schedule in the dance department, there are limmited choices for a second major (5-6 hours of dance a day on average).
I can only tell you about the ED auditon. You take it during regular dance class at Tisch along with current Tisch students. It consists of an hour and a half ballet class followed by an hour and a half modern class followed by a 2-3 minute solo (if asked) then an interview.
I understand the RD audition is somewhat shorter and you can be cut at any time during ether auditions.

Judgeing that your ID is "jasmom", you should know there is little jazz in this program, if that is what your D is looking for. The MT department CAP21 might be what she wants but you must have really good acting skills. Also, Marymount Manhattan has a jazz program that might interest her. If jazz is not her interest, just disregard this last paragraph.

Thanks for the info. Nah.. re: jazz. She's in love with modern. I figured it would be tough to impossible to 2nd major in a distinctly different major. I'd love to touch base with you later re: where else you auditioned.

This was an ED auditon in November. All the other auditons start in January-March (if needed).
Ailey/Fordham, Juilliard, Marymount (Manhattan), North Carolina School of the Arts, Boston Conservatory maybe SUNY Purchase?
