Difference between Tisch and Steinhardt?

I'm a highschool junior who's planning on majoring in musical theatre in college. I've narrowed them down to NYU, Syracuse, Ithaca and the Harrt School. I just don't know whether Tisch or Steinhardt is better for me, whose forte is most definitely singing over acting. Help?

Howdy - On the CC site there is a page on "Steinhardt VS Tisch", so that should help you decide. In short, Steinhardt offers a BM (Bachelor of Music) in musical theatre and is more focused in music, and Tisch offers a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) in Drama, and is more focused in acting.

Best of luck to ya!

Hello. I am currently a student at NYU.
Steinhardt vs Tisch. It depends more on what you are interested in pursuing. In cases like yours, most people who are planning on majoring in musical theatre will go for Tisch School of Arts because it is well-known. Steinhardt students are usually voice majors and veers more toward the classical side. It's really a matter of what you'd like to improve on.
The great thing about Tisch is that they have studios where you get to work with prominent people within the industry. Certain studios almost serve as feeds for the industry.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

Someone who is far from an expert weighing in here, but just thought I would pass this along.

My D was recently part of a program which allowed her to be "mentored" by a group of Equity actors performing at a local theater. She and several other students got to attend rehearsals for the show and meet with/talk to/interact with the actors. One young woman was a Steindhardt graduate and spent some time talking to my D. What she told my D reinforced what has been said here, which is that Steinhardt students concentrate heavily on the voice/vocal performance aspects and much less on other things, including dance. Ironically, this young woman performed the most ambitious, incredible dance in the show! (And I should mention her voice was absolutely lovely.)
